This was an exercise both Hubby and I needed to go through because we're contemplating moving back to Glasgow ourselves. I went into s1homes.com for their listing of Glasgow neighborhoods.  Below are the places he would consider.  He's Glasgow born and bred, and has a bias toward the southside and quieter areas.  Don't know how affordable these areas are, as my husband has champagne tastes for our Carling Special Brew budget.  The ones that are in the West End (which also means north of the Clyde) are marked with a W, S for south side of the Clyde, and CC is city center.  The ones with question marks, I have NO idea where they are, but I am willing to bet they are south side:

Battlefield S
Bearsden W
Broomhill W
Burnside S
Busby S
Cambuslang S
Carmunnock S
Cathcart S
Clarkston S
Croftfoot S
Dowanhill W
Eaglesham S
Eastwood S
Giffnock S
High Burnside S
Hillhead W
Hyndland W
Jordanhill W
Kelvinside W
Kelvindale W
Kelvingrove W
King's Park S
Kirkhill ?
Kirklee W
Langside S
Lenzie (this is north of city - on the 'every telephone pole between Glasgow and Stirling' train)
Mansewood S
Maxwell Park S
Mearnskirk S
Merchant City CC
Milngavie W
Mount Vernon S
Orchard Park ?
Park W
Pollokshaws S
Pollokshields S
Queens Park S
Rouken Glen S
Sandyhills ?
Shawlands S
Thornliebank ?
Thorntonhall ?
Wardlawhill ?
Waterfoot ?
Whitecraigs ?

All areas have their good and bad bits.  I would add to this Partick and Partickhill, where I have lived.  They were a bit rough around the edges when I lived there, but I think it may be a new up and coming area.  I hope this helps.

LOL... your husband's taste in 'acceptable areas' is very similar to mine!  :)
Some of those places are very expensive, though, so if i were moving back to Glasgow, my budget wouldnt stretch to it.    I probably have a smaller budget than most of you, though.

Thanks for that list... im sure it will be helpful to someone here.

Yeah, a lot of these areas are VERY expensive for buying a place.  ;)  Hubby AND otterpop have good taste!  However, those looking to rent may find a number of decent flats in the same areas.  With the increasing popularity of 'buy to let ' schemes as an investment strategy, some areas seem to have a bunch of properties available.

Hey weegiewife - thank you very much for such a great list!
I'm just now logging back on here after being away a bit and this is FANTASTIC!  Thank you very very much :)  I have no idea what's outside of my price range since I don't have a job there yet, but I'm going to use my job here in Baltimore as an idea and go from there (which is really a bad idea, but hey what else can I do?)
