MeShell, I think you might be thinking of pork.  Have a look at this:

well, if you mentioned little white frilly socks, he might well think you're daft!  ;)   ;)

But i think Cait's right... it is the pork crown, not the rib of beef that wears the 'socks'!

I did find a crown of beef too, but it didn't seem to have the bones on which to stick the frilly socks.  I have seen pictures of the roast before, but didn't know it was pork either.

Roy & I will make some sort of roast for Christmas, along with roast potatoes, peas and fresh bread.  I'll bake a loaf or two of pumpkin bread as I have a few extra cans of pumpkin.  And we're probably buy some sort of chocolate pud for desert.

I can't wait to go mad at M&S...I'm meeting Roy at work on Weds and we're doing the big ol' shopping spree there...I think we've decided to do a roast goose! (which I'll get from the local butcher)

oooh, 4 for 3 at M&S is VERY good news indeed!  :D A few of our friends may pop around on Xmas eve and because I'm just not up for three days of cooking (dh's family have a party on Boxing Day) I was thinking I'd just get loads of nice party food and maybe bake a pie. I'm definitely hitting M&S on Friday!!!

Modified to add: Liane, you have to let me know how the goose turns out! DH wanted to do a goose but I think we've settled on a duck instead.

Just put the marzipan on the Christmas cake today. Couldn't find ground almonds so I had to grind them myself in the food processor--slightly courser finish, but should be fine. Almond prices have skyrocketed in the States recently: somethng to do with too much rain in California last year. I've been baking the usual assortment of Christmas cookies, gingerbread boys and the like.

I always like to make a batch or two of lemon curd to give as gifts. It's still something of a novelty here in the U.S. and homemade is pretty scrumptious.

Christmas dinner? My husband has suggested a joint of beef, but all in all, we'll keep it simple and eat it early. We have to get up at 4 a.m. on Boxing Day to fly to California for a week with my family. Shall I leave the Christmas dishes for when we get back?

The veg. and horseradish dish sounds delicious.

Right, I know this is kinda of an old thread but since I was doing some christmas baking this year, I thought I ask here.  Has anyone any really good christmas decorating odds and ends?  I have gone to almost all the grocery stores and am at my wit's end!  I wanted to make some cookies, candy, etc that call for red and green chocolate baking chips but I can't find that anywhere!  (knew I should have stocked up when I was in the states!)  apart from making dh sit and pull out all the red and green m&m's from the bag, I just don't know what to do!  I have found the little silver balls and writing icing and a few little holly decorations but that's about it.  DH says it's because not many people actually make christmas goodies themselves anymore.  Thankfully I did pick up one small tub of red/green sugar sprinkles when I was in the states. When I was home over thanksgiving I was really tempted to get  a lot of the christmas baking goodies I saw at Walmart but I thought for sure they would have them here when I got back!  If anyone spots some neat christmasy baking items, please share!!  :)

Jamie is making a Christmas pudding for Christmas Day. He's going to make a perfectly round one with the icing dripping down the sides, like you see on tv. I'm going to assist (watch). I'm going to get a M&S chocolate cake, though. mmmmmm.
