funniest/oddest/most annoying pregnancy symptom
« on: December 16, 2005, 05:32:26 PM »
Since there does seem to be something in the water these days, I thought it would be fun to compare notes...

Aside from the usual complaints, I've found the following:

funniest and oddest - I have bizarre little hiccups. But only one or 2 at the most. I literally sound like a wino "HIC!" - just get me a bottle of thunderbird! Fortunately I don't seem to get them during the day - just at night - something to delight DH with!

most annoying - I've suffered off and on from esophageal spasms in my life (if you've ever swallowed a big piece of food and felt it 'travel' down your back - this is what if feels like - painful!). In the past, they were always due to stress but now I seem to be getting them as a result of acid reflux. I can control them with antacids somewhat but suffer until they kick in. They can even make me lightheaded! I'm very worried they will get increasingly worse.

I also have a cough. No other cold or flu-like symptoms. Just a stupid cough that gets worse when I talk a lot or exercise.

How 'bout you? :)

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

most annoying? my feet grew with each pregnancy. I started as a 7.5, then went to an 8, then to an 8.5 or a 9.

We just can't have anymore kids . . . all of the really great shoes get harder and harder to find in the bigger sizes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most annoying?  The worst acne I've ever had in my life!  It took MONTHS for it to clear up after he was born.  It didn't go away completely, either - my skin is worse now than before I was pregnant.  >:(

Small shooting pains in my abdomen, like someone pinching me from the inside.  They went away when he rose into the middle of my belly around 3 months.  The whole needing to be sitting on a toilet to laugh or cough in the first and last trimester.

I also noticed that my hair stopped falling out.  I usually end up with a handful everytime I take a shower, but after a few weeks of being pregnant my hair stopped falling out.
Dream a dream of England .......... Some day

i had full on leakage - so leaky i was even able to express and freeze antenatally.

now, i have to pump off excess and freeze, i have such a stonking supply.  i wake in the night drenched in milk.  i look at my wee 'creature' as i call her, and milk flows out.  i'm going to have to hire an electric pump tomorrow.

Annoying, the headaches, oh when will they go away?

Oddest, I became calm, my mother even commented on this again recently

OMG - I totally forgot about the headaches!  Do not miss those!

(sorry, Stacey, but mine lasted the whole nine months)

most annoying: acid reflux that was so bad I'd have to stop mid sandwich to throw up. :P

most unusual:  that would be waking up in the middle of the night craving a cigarette :o when I've never smoked in my life.

I had the sense of smell thing too, especially in the first trimestre. I kept making my husband have showers!  I had a bizarre craving in my third trimestre but it's too rude to share here!

Oh my sense of smell was also a problem. With my first, I actuallly threw up many nights when my husband would get in bed. He is the cleanest man I know, so it wasn't that he smelled bad . . . it was just his smell. The poor thing tried new deodorant, new shampoo, shaving cream . . .everything. He finally started sleeping in the guest room.

Imagine crawling into bed and your spouse jumping up, running to the bathroom and throwing up . . . this is not a good thing for a young, newly married couple. We, obviously made it past this and have had quite a few good laughs over the whole thing.

The hair on my legs started coming in dark, during both pregnancies.  After my daughter was born, it went back to coming in blond, but now it's dark again!  Grrr...

Does anyone have an overly sensitive sense of smell when it came to themselves?  Don't laugh, but I always think that I smell funny in some way!  My husband thinks that I'm nuts, but I remember trying all different kinds of deoderants and soaps my first prengnacy, but I always thought that there was something wrong with the way that I smell!
