hi tristessa~ we're doing the LDR thing too and it's ridiculously hard- I'm hoping to get to the UK by the end of the year (no marriage plans, though, so we're having some interesting immigration issues, hehe)  I also feel ya on the phone bill- I won't say how high my cell phone's been for the last 2 months, but it's definitely put a serious cramp in my credit card balance!  ;)  I'm currently laying low around UK-Y for a while, but feel free to PM or anything if you ever want to rant or vent  :)
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

If it helps you any, before I left America , I found out Verizon offers unlimited call time to the UK for only $20 a month.

I had no idea! Verizon wireless or land line? Either way, I wish I had known that a year or two ago!

oops...guess i should have kept reading before I posted. Even for a landline, that's a great deal. I always just used Walgreen's international phone card. If you recharge it, you get 10% free.

Lol...well I can't sleep and I'm bored. I'm over Christmas break. I want to go back to Uni and just get it over with so I can hurry up and get back to Manchester.

OK, so i thought i'd post an update here since everything has changed in the last couple of days.  After the worst New Year's i've ever had (spent the whole day fighting over the phone with DF) New Year's Day brought a bit of a shock.  We talked and decided that neither one of us wanted to spend any more time waiting, trying to make sure everything was perfect for our big move.  We have decided to go for it and I'm moving with my little girl in a month, talked it over with her and she's thrilled with moving up the date.  He's going to get a flat for the three of us and we're going to be living a little primitive for a bit but that's what makes life interesting right?

  I have three days left to go before i leave for this two week visit, then back for a mad month of sorting all my belongings, shipping some things, packing the rest into storage to be shipped later, if i decide i still want any of it.  We are going to be looking for jobs for me while im there and checking out flats for let.  Wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted on here bout the phone plans and other advice and support.  Our last few months have been harder than anything i have ever done and we are both just glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hate to imagine how hard its going to be to say goodbye at the airport this time, but at least i know it won't be for very long.  Last time, i cried the entire 9 hour flight back from London, hated every mile of it.

thanks again to everyone, i wouldn't have gotten through the last few months, especially the last few days without this site.  ;D

That is great news for you! Just think after this visit you won't have to do the airport goodbyes any longer! There is light at the end of the tunnel, just hold on! Best of luck to you  [smiley=hug.gif]

I didnt see any mention of getting your fiancee visa sorted out... hope you're not forgetting about that!   ;)
Hope you have a lovely visit with your DF... but make sure you dont mention anything at immigration about being there to look for jobs...

Since you are coming for visit it will be a good chance for you and your guy to get all the paperwork needed for your visa.  I hope it all goes the way you wish.

Otterpop and Maddierose~
I have an unusual situation, I am in the process of getting my British passport. I was born in Dunoon, Scotland in '75, so am considered a citizen by birth.  I just have to wait unti. I'm back from ths visit to send off the paperwork to the Embassy in Washington, as i have to be in the country when they process the application.  This keeps me from doing the visa route, luckily.  The one thing i was trying to figure out was if i could go to a passport office while in the UK and get a rush one done while i'm there, haven't been able to find info on my doing that though yet.  Somewhere i read that i neeed to apply for it from the US, but don't see why that should be.  Anyone know?

thanks for the best wishes!! This time through, just telling immigration, im here two week visit, return ticket in hand.

Thanks!  It looks like i'll have to call and see if I can make an appointment to go to Liverpool maybe.  May not be enough time if it takes awhile to get an appointment, but I'm gonna give it a shot, otherwise, will just have to send it off to Washington when i get back.

Only have a day and a half till i get on the plane, so am in major panic mode now, trying to take care of all the last minute things.  The next two weeks are so needed! ;D
