I can't gain weight in the UK!!
« on: December 20, 2005, 06:39:46 PM »
I don't know what it is about the food here versus America but I can't keep any weight on here.  I eat more than I ever have, including late night trips to the kebab shop and mcdonalds and I keep losing weight.  I was comfortable at the weight I was when I first moved here, but this is just getting out of control, my hipbones are starting to stick out.  Anyone have the same problem here?  I want to gain about 5-8 lbs to get back to where I was.

probably time for a GP visit.  you might want to rule out an over-active thyroid.

I second the visit to a GP. It may take them a while to refer you to a specialist, just to get the tests run.

Though, I secretly wish I had that sort of metabolism, to have lost weight, instead of gained.

Good Luck, and good health, soon.

Moving to a new country may have affected your metabolism.

Also, are you exercising more?

I agree with seeing a doctor if you are concerned.

Trips to McDonald and the kebab shop are probably not a good idea. Just because you are thin doesn't mean you can't get clogged arteries and diabetes. You are also probably missing out on important nutrients if you are trying to gain weight by eating junk food.

I swear it's all the stairs, I've dropped a bunch of weight lately too, but I wanted to, However, there are stairs everywhere it seems, and I do a load of walking, I'm just wondering if it's the exercise thing as well.

Don't worry, I lost weight too when I first came here...it'll catch up with you though! Don't stress about it and just eat healthy. No McDonald's and kebabs--there are better ways to boost your weight! Eat loads of whole grains, lean proteins and fresh fruit and veg. Try drinking lots of organic fruit smoothies--high in calories but good for you. Snack on nuts--also high in calories, but full of essential fatty acids. There are worse things than your bones sticking out, in any case! Do some weight bearing exercise to tone up. If you're that thin and you build some muscle, you'll be a little hotty in no time!

I walk more around the city than I did in the US. I snacked more in the US which I don't have an apetite : stress ,change in routine , alcohol can affect your appetite
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

when I visited England last year for 2 weeks, I lost 8lbs. I think it's the difference in food (I find UK food doesn't appeal to me nearly as much) and all the walking you do there. At any rate, I'm looking forward to shedding some pounds when I move over!
