Nope- them's the ones. . . Death by bleeding secondary to cereal ingestion. It's a hazard, to be sure.

LOL! I am glad I'm not the only one that happened to!  ;D

I "miss" Nestle chocolate  chips...the baking chips here do not taste good in toll house cookies...so I have people bring or ship a few bags every so often. When my son comes back next week he will bring a few bags  of the chocolate chips, 2-3 bottles of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, 6 packets of adolph's meat tenderizing marinade, 6 bags of split green peas (can only find the yellow ones up here which don't disintergrate completely in split pea soup), a few boxes of (disgusting in MHO) Kraft macaroni and cheese for the twins and a few bags of "Pirate's Booty" for them also. We used to have to "import" goldfish crackers, but now we can get "Finz" at Asda (which is the same thing, only more expensive) and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups...the only candy worth eating!!!...which we can now get at Fenwick's!

It's not that I can't live without these things...it is just super nice to receive them!  :)

Oh gosh...Triscuits (I love them) and Saltines...one thing that is missing here is good crackers, but atleast I can get pretzles most anywhere! (I am a carb addict!)

I miss gigantic jars of pre-minced garlic like I used to get at Walmart.

Lazy Garlic is quite good too.  It's also in a jar.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

i'm one of those snobs (still in the states) who has to make a monthly excursion to the local british/irish import shop for my necessities. for example, i would rather drink bath water than lipton's tea.  :P  so i don't think there's entirely too much i'll be longing for once i make the move across the water. but ask again in six months--i'm sure there'll be something i'm not thinking of now.

Wish I had seen this topic when it was more active!

I'm not in the UK atm but when I was there I definitely missed Mexican food...esp since we had the BEST mexican the month before in Atlanta! ;)

I also missed coffee..I wasnt a huge coffee drinker (I love it just didnt drink it every single day before) but when I went over I HAD to have it, and filtered coffee is apparently American ;) So I had to buy a cafetiere..it took awhile to get the hang of it, and now I almost miss that way of making it ;)

The biggest thing was tomato sauce...I bought passata from Tesco...it was horrible the first time around, but he was a dear and ate it anyway (how I dont know :P). I got the hang of it soon (kinda had to I make LOTS of pasta ;) ).

However I did find new foods I loved over there...Hob Nobs..mmmmmmm (White chocolate digestives too...my dbf wondered where they all went hehe) . ;D Ah yes and odd as they sound cauliflower cheese grills...potato waffles...yum! (I know I went a bit off track there hehe)

And there were some things that I can get in the US but were just different, such as tuna in sunflower oil, I prefer it that way, but it is soo expensive here in the US!!

My son is going with me this trip and he loves pickles, baby dills to be exact, I couldnt find any in the UK...care package! hehe

But overall there was so much new stuff to try that I dont think I'd miss much from here.

I miss gigantic jars of pre-minced garlic like I used to get at Walmart. . . .Mostly it's just former pantry staples that are no longer part of my cooking anymore...

Carla - Waitrose sells minced garlic in a jar (not a gigantic jar though . . .)

I agree though - the stuff I "miss" are ingredients for some of our favorite recipes. For example, Campbell's dried onion soup mix for the No-Peek Beef Cassarole dish we make in the crock pot. We just have friends and family brings certain non-perishables with them when they visit.

Am I the only person here who really doesn't care about getting food from the States? There is good food in the US, but equally good, though sometimes different, food here. I'd rather be trying new foods that you can't get in the US than eating the same foods that I've been eating all my life.

If I had no way to get these items, we could certainly live without them. But since we have a way to get them, and we enjoy the recipes, why shouldn't we? Making the occasional familiar dish doesn't mean we are eating an exclusively "American" range of foods - it just means we can have the best of both worlds. And IMHO a familiar meal is one of the best cures for homesickness - goes straight to the soul.
Stop waiting. Start doing.

geally, waitrose sells Nestle choc. chips now.

I can't say I actively miss anything anymore, but I wouldn't say no to proper Mexican food (chicken mole enchiladas from Tortilla Flats in Soquel, California), Peets coffee, or Noah's pumpkin bagels.

There's nothing I really miss, food-wise.  There are things I prefer but don't ask for it to be sent, etc.  Sure, I'll make a run to Trader Joe's when I'm in CA but usually that's to buy something for a friend!
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Texas Ex-I've been looking for a good dry onion soup mix, too. Let me know if you find any!

I really miss RED French dressing, and vanilla bean ice cream. haven't found a good vanilla here yet.

Snupy & TexasEx, Knorr makes a decent dry onion soup mix - it's served my purposes well!

As for vanilla, buy the most expensive bottle at the supermarket - an actual essence rather than imitation - and use a smaller amount (it's FAR stronger.)

What do they have? Our Asda only has the usual Old El Paso & Discovery stuff.  At least Sainsburys has some  Cool Chile Co products.
