How about ferrets?
« on: December 26, 2005, 01:05:30 AM »
I'm wondering if anybody flew ferrets overseas?  I have two furrballs that I would like to take with me to UK next autumn (I'm moving there for good), but I'm not sure how are things done with ferrets.  By that time they'll be 6 and 5 years old and I'm wondering if it's not too old to make them go through all the necessary hassle.  They are not vaccinated (stay at home all the time), no tests yet and no microchip.  How expensive are those things?  I remember going to a vet for a simple blood test, and that alone cost me nearly $150.  Another thing is that the older ferret has adrenal that goes on and off every... 6/7 months.  Will she be allowed in the UK?  I hate to leave them in the US.  I'll be moving to UK alone, and ferrets will stay with my parents in case I can't take them with me, but still, they're like my children.

So if there is anybody that took ferrets abroad, I'd like to hear about their experience.  About anything: getting the necessary medical stuff, dealing with people, getting things ready, the flight, everything.   :)

If you've looked at DEFRA's website, I think they include ferrets in the same category as cats and dogs. So, yes, you would be able to bring yours over. Good luck to you!

Here's someone from another thread who brought her ferrets over. http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=18751.msg143859#msg143859
