waiting!!! argh!!!!
« on: December 26, 2005, 02:20:23 PM »
Right so i never keep track of my period i just know the week- ish time it usually is. 25th ish, but there are usually signs its coming. So... no signs, no period and just took a test and it was the one that shows a cross with a yes and a line with a no.  so the base line came up and then two dots along the other way where my line to make a cross should be? I seem to be very tired, and the whole bloating bit came and has left now? seemed to have better smell last week or so, and slight nausea in the am sometimeas at night, but never too strong?  now we must play the waiting game? i hate waiting. Do pregnancy tests show as soon as you miss a period? what if  you conceived during  lets say 3rd week in cycle maybe? would a test show up if your due to be on the next week but u conceived the week before, or since you may be late on a period do you just have to wait till the hormone is detectable? all this is confusing read two baby books cover to cover already and havent seen my answer. I hope we are pregnant.
any answers???? thanks!

i'd wait until i was at least three days late to test.  i know some tests say they show up right away and yadda yadda yadda, but 1) the later you find out YOU are pregnant, the better, cuz the end drags out no matter how good it's going 2) why waste money on tests unless you're mega late?

the first time, i was WAY late before i tested, and the line showed up right away.  the second, i forgot about my period being late b/c of being so busy w/a toddler, jobs, etc. and was once again, a fortnight late when i finally got round to testing.

Well, at least you can't wait to find out in a good way! :)  Try not to think about it(impossible, I know) and try again in a few days-but from what I know-you can have a false neg. but never a false positive. ;)

My sister tested negative for a fortnight with her first!  But she was pregnant all along.   :D

I think it all really depends on how strong the pregnancy hormone is in your body. I still have the first pregnancy stick I used and almost a year later its still there and dark as the day I took it, (I still have it for keepsakes ;D)
I didn't know I was pregnant until almost 2 months into my pregnancy,my periods were always irregular so I didn't think anything of it when I didn't have my period , I only took the test because I was so naseous every morning.

I have had 8 pregnancies and each time did home preg. tests. I have a few times came up with a false negative. In fact I had two hospital false neg. tests but I have never once came up with a false positive. Is it possible to come up with a false positive result? I thought the HCG hormone MUST be present in order to get a positive result.

I was told by a nurse once that you can have a false negative but not a false positive.

The only way I've heard of someone having a false positive is if their body produces the hormone naturally,or is they have recently miscarried.
