Another car-related IA for me today:
As I mentioned on here the other day, my little old car failed its MOT last week and is not worth repairing, so I'm having to buy a new car. We looked at several cars over the weekend and I put a deposit down on one that I'm picking up and paying for this evening, so, all I had to do this morning was call the insurance company and set up the policy... or so I thought.
It's taken me about 4 hours of calling companies and getting online quotes to find a good price! The problem is that I have a driving conviction on my licence and because of the nature of it, several companies won't touch me at all and others want to charge extortionate rates. Until now, I've been a named driver on my mum's policy which was fairly cheap (at least compared to other quotes), but changing the car and going fully comp means the policy goes up by about £400 per year and I won't even be the main driver on it, so I can't build up any no claims. However, if I take out my own policy with the same company, it'll cost £2,000 per year!
So, I've spent the morning trying to find a better deal - there have been some cheap quotes, but the insurance company reviews on the internet are terrible, so I'm having to go for one that is not cheap, but thankfully still under the £1,000 mark.
I'm just kicking myself because if only I didn't have the conviction on my licence, I could probably get car insurance for only about £200 or £300 a year

(as I'm over 25, I've been driving for 9 years, and I have never had any other convictions or points on my licence, or any accidents or claims).
