This stupid cow.  Oh my goodness.  J and I cleaned my flat for I would say a good 15 hours this weekend- cleaning the fridge, the oven, the carpets, the bathroom, the mouldy walls,  the furniture. Everything. It was completely and utterly spotless.  You could lick the floor and eat off the toliet kind of clean.  And her remarks were "This place is just not up to scratch, I have to get the cleaners in here to sort it out and bring it back up to standard" and she argued with me for 10 minutes over the rusty radiator that oh, she happened to mark before I moved in that it was rusty.  She was making me change lightbulbs and she counted forks and there were spots on the forks so she said they weren't clean enough.  And scratches in the drawers, oh she went on for 5 minutes about the scratches in the cutlery drawer.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Oooo! How annoying! I once had a property manager try and charge me because I didn't leave "three rolls of toilet paper" in the linen closet! (They weren't even there when I moved in! She was just insane!) I hope you're out of there, and done with her, very soon!

My IA: no motivation to work today. Argh.

I absolutely hate letting agents in the UK. Mine made me wipe off all the window sills even though they were having new windows installed the very next day. Ridiculous.  ::)

Are you going to get back your full deposit?

Uggh!!!

I hate her, I never hate anyone, not even the old, old landlord who gave me trouble.  But the contempt I have for this woman is unreal- because not only does she go on and on but she treats you like a 3 year old and talks real slow to you like you're an idiot.   ::) ::)

Nope, 'cause she's gonna charge me something stupid like £45/hour for the professional cleaners

Once everything is over and you don't have to deal with her again, send her a basket full of muffins with a note that says "Thank you for all that you've done for me.  I've now realized that no matter what happens in life, I'll never be as horrible and as miserable of a person as you. Best- phatbeetle"  ;)

Hang in there, you're almost rid of her.

Me too. :( (Probably in part because it's my last week so my to-do list is rather small, and what's there is annoying, clean-up-for-the-next-guy stuff.)

Utterly ridiculous. I'd be completely furious.  Well, clearly, you are.  But I am also furious on your behalf.

I am convinced they get a cut of whatever the arbitrary cleaning charge happens to be.   ::)

LOL! I wouldn't eat muffins if they came with a note like that! It sounds dangerous!  :P

My IA: I called up to work to check on the lovely young girl is doing her work experience and she sounded so lush and cute on the phone and I really wanted to work with her this week. She said she even brought me a little gift and a get well soon card and wanted to know if I was coming in any time this week to see her. I feel so bad! I know it can't be helped that I have this infection, but man, she is so sweet and I really wanted to teach her some stuff and spend some time working with her so she would have a really good work experience, not stick her with working my job alone and sitting there bored out of her skull.  :(

Guess these magical cleaners are going to get the scratches out of the cutlery drawer. Amazing!

I hope you're able to get the majority of your money back. This totally sucks for you.  >:(

Can landlords just do stuff like that? It sounds like they can get away with whatever they want. Can you look into if you have any kind of renter's rights in this situation? I would think that every landlord would have their place cleaned before new people move in. Isn't that part of her investment? It sounds like she's trying to get out of her own obligation (to the new people) by having you pay for it. I really hope it turns out ok in the end! I'd be so frustrated!

This. I'm renting out my house, and the company managing the property said that I need to budget in carpet cleaning and possible repainting (if needed) as routine maintenance between tenants...I can't just claim that the carpets need to be cleaned for someone else to move in and take it out of their deposit. (I'm assuming the case is different if they leave something trashed, but if it's "normal clean" rather than "shiny move-in clean", that's fine.)

I'd be getting out my lease and reading the fine print about that. Seems there has to be a standard paragraph about "reasonable effort" or something, meaning that you didn't trash your apartment. Spots on a fork are not trashing the place.

I have to say, that after reading all the horror stories on here, I'm terrified of renting over there!

This is ridiculous, but I'm still annoyed.  My grocery delivery just arrived, and with it a container of ice cream I didn't order.  I wasn't charged for it or anything, but I've been doing really well with my diet, which means full-fat yummy goodness like that cannot come in the house -- it's diet Skinny Cows for me because they're low-cal and come in single serving packages.  I think this thing is a liter and it's just cruelly taunting me.  ::)

Like I said, ridiculous.

I have the day off work today and I almost wish I didn't (I normally have Wednesdays off) :(. The next-door neighbours (semi-detached) are having work done on their house and the workmen have been hammering, banging and electric-sawing things for the past 5 hours - it's driving me crazy!

I can't hear the TV properly, I can't concentrate on what I'm doing at home and it's making my head hurt :(.
