A customer tried to pull a fast one on me today when I was on the till.

I gave him 6 one pound coins and a penny change for his 3.99 purchase.  He then asked me if he could have a 5 pound note instead.  I said, I don't have any, that's why I gave you coins.

He then said, "I'll give you 5 pound coins and you can give me a 10 pound note."  I said, "No, you can give me 5 pound coins plus 5 more pounds, and *then* I'll give you a ten pound note, otherwise you'd be cheating me out of 5 pounds!"

He then proceeded to put 6 one pound coins on the counter with a five pound note sort of hanging out.  I said, "There's one extra pound coin here."  He said, "No! No!"  I said, "No, I can't make any change for you, go to the bank across the street!"

What, did he think I fell off the turnip truck yesterday?!  ::) >:(

I went to bed with a 60% charge on my macbook and when I turned it on this morning, it was 0%.  ??? Looking at the battery status it said "replace now". ARGH. >:(

I knew it would happen eventually as I've had the battery three years now. But did it really have to choose the week before my dissertation is due? Yes, I have everything backed up, but I'm so paranoid that it's just going to die at any minute now. And I REALLY don't want to shell out £100 for a new battery when I've just put down a massive deposit on a new flat. I'm just a poor grad student. :\\\'(

I haven't read through all 1,800 odd pages (YIKES) but I just want to say, I'm so tired of what my FIL calls "the Great Unwashed" on the bus.

I was on the bus today and someone got on who smelled of pee-pee. Then someone got in guzzling some larger, which also smelled. Ughhhh.  :-X

yeah, welcome to the west midlands!   [smiley=puke.gif]

First, the JobCentre messed up the spelling of my last name on my letter with my NI number.

I received the new one today, and now the spelling is correct but they have swapped my middle and last names.  ::)

Blaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!  Obviously, no one actually looked at my application or my copy of my passport, which is actually both amazing and disconcerting at the same time!

Hopefully 3rd time is the charm.

Update: 3rd time was the charm! Finally!

Hrmmm my sister's husband has a court hearing today- and they wouldn't tell him why - his slip was only him versus the state police-  What if he needed a lawyer or anything???  Strange!  Hope it all goes OK.

Oh noes! Unnecessary stress on top of being stressed already.  >:( Hope you get this sorted so you can knock that dissertation out.

My IA: We haven't gotten a gas bill for over 2 years. DH called so many times to get it sorted and they never did, they just kept sending out letters that they wanted to take a reading. So we never got a bill, never made a payment. Of course, now that we lost our jobs and are facing a terrible time financially, we got a bill for over £1000 and have no way to pay it. It's making me want to throw up to face this added stress. And after 10 days of sight seeing that we couldn't afford, I'm so ready for my parents to go back home so I can start working again and try to adjust to all of these changes.  :-\\\\

Sold a bundle of jeans on Ebay. 7 pairs of jeans. And I only got £8.50 for it. WTF. Whenever I look on ebay to buy a bundle of jeans, they are always £30 and up. So why when I decide to sell a bundle, I dont even make a tenner from it! Ugh!

Surely they can't get away with that!? Has it happened to anybody else in your area? There was a case here in Mass. recently (I think it was Brockton) where the city sent out a load of retroactive water bills to a lot of people for outrageous sums -- one woman got one for $11,000. But they're all getting together to protest. I think there's going to be an audit on the water dept. now.

That's horrible!  I'm sorry :(

Are you with Scottish Power by any chance?  They are horrible about sending bills and then demanding payment.  The interwebs are full of people dealing with them.

Contact Citizen's Advice in the morning and set up an appointment and arrange some sort of payment plan. Do not go on payment meters the tarrifs are really really high.

Hope you can sort something out.

We spent £400 yesterday on car repairs because one of our cars was making a horrible rattling sound. The husband picked the car up yesterday and we swapped cars today so I was using the newly repaired car. Only I discovered it's still making the horrible rattling noise. We'll have to take it back to the garage over the weekend and hope and pray it's not going to be more money we have to sink into the car. But man oh man, is it an embarrassing sound.
