My friend is clueless about visa processes (for his girlfriend). He keeps acting super optimistic about her getting a visa (after her first was granted, then revoked), even though I've been telling him you can't swap from a visitor visa to another form of visa within the UK. (She's not here yet, but they're planning on her visiting to job hunt and such, apparently.)

Don't mind if he doesn't want to take my advice (I'm hardly an expert) or research it himself, it's just annoying to see someone (potentially) setting themselves up for failure.

It can be so frustrating, especially if you've done everything right and know the process.  There are two couples I know in real life that I've watched and just thought, I have no idea how you are going to get your next visa in the process, but I've mentioned to them websites or places to look if they don't believe me.  I'm really having to bite my tongue now because the people I know just seem to have no clue.

In my case, I've never applied for a visa, but I've read enough on here to be fairly confident in the basic info! I've advised him to consult immigration professionals about appealing the revoking of her original (Tier 1) visa, so perhaps that's what he'll do.

I met an American at my party Saturday night who did not realize he had to take the Life in the UK test "because he's American!" He wound up having to take it last minute when he applied for his ILR, had to take time off work to study and everything.... I just did an inner eye-roll at the notion that because he's American he knows everything about living in the UK, and that it as just silly that he should have to take the test.  ::)
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

A few British friends I have honestly believe that they learned all about the US by watching Friends...two way street...but I completely agree that if you or your other half needs to be involved in immigration either dive in, research and make sure you understand it 100% yourself or if you're lazy and can't be bothered, hire yourself an immigration solicitor and then they can tell you what to do and when.

I have a friend in a similar situation. His girlfriend is here on a PSW visa after she completed her degree. It runs out in three months.  They are waiting to get engaged (well, he's waiting to propose, but I'm sure she knows what's going on) until the day her visa expires because it will be "romantic".  I tried to explain that she just can't stick around and work things out after the expiration date just because they're in love, but we'll see.

My IA is that I have a bit of a cold (DH's fault!), but not really enough to justify not going to work, just enough to make getting up and getting to work a bit unpleasant.

Yeah, stressing about your legal status in the country always makes me swoon. ;)

Yuck! I've still got the tail end of this cold, so I've been snuffling and hacking a bit at work...not so fun.

It's time to pack up Christmas parcels, get them ready to post to the US.  I still need to buy two grandson gifts and there's no transportation to the store I need to visit.  Frustration is setting in.   >:(

I was gambling on three months before we were made redundant but my boss reckons it's more like 2 weeks.

I don't know how we'll cope.

Been a *bleep*ing fantastic month all around to be honest.

Incredibly painful breast Cyst,  chest infection, Bells Palsy, surgery, redundancy, paid a huge amount for a wedding that I now can't afford and may have to move the date because of William/Kate,  all in about 4 weeks.
