What to expect at 1st midwife appt.?
« on: December 29, 2005, 06:24:11 PM »
Tomorrow morning Hubby and I are going to see our midwife for the first time, and I think this is called the "booking in" appointment, or something like that.  So what am I to expect?  I know loads of question will be asked about our medical histories, but will I have an internal?  Will blood be taken?  Etc. etc.  Thanks!

Going by my experience there will be a huge multipage form be filled in which your midwife will talk you through.  She'll also discuss the options for delivery in your area and hopefully explain the system to you and give you some general advice about looking after yourself (which you probably already know)  As far as your husband's medical history is concerned she'll only want to know about any genetic diseases (cystic fibrosis, sickle cell etc) in his family so its worth getting him to check in case there's something he doesn't know.  There should be blood & urine tests (you'll get lots of practice at peeing into tiny little pots while you're pregnant  ;D ) but you are unlikely to have an internal.  Good luck :)

Yep I would concurr with Hendy. The form takes ages and there is no internal.

This is what mine was like, although she didn't ask about my husband's medical history at all.
