Post-Pregnancy Aches
« on: December 31, 2005, 01:41:17 PM »
Its been almost 10 weeks since I've had Courtney, and just recently I've been having horrible tummy aches on a regular basis, I've never felt this type of pain before. My c-section scar looks fine,it healed well,so I don't think theres an infection. It feels like a tightening type of pain in my tummy. I can't even have the baby lay on my tummy without being in horrible pain, Has anyone else had this post-pregnancy?

I haven't had a c-section, but my rectus abdominus muscle split in two during pregnancy.  the gap is too wide for it to go back by itself, so I'm going to have to have physiotherapy 4-6 weeks postpartum.  For now, it hurts pretty wicked!  My tummy is back to being pretty flat, but it's sore as hell if I do too much.

Maybe your tummy muscles are split like this?

You have to remember that you had MAJOR surgery! I still get aches and pains even tho my last one was 14yrs ago...I may take you awhile longer to get over it!!

Thanks for the quick replies.

True, I didn't think about the fact that it was a major surgery. The hospital told me fuc* all about it and didn't tell me what to expect after the surgery.
I carried small in my pregnancy, I was all baby and she was pretty big when born so I think she could've damaged something as well because even though I had a c-section I only stopped bleeding last week.

It MEGA surgery!  They have to cut through the entire abdominal wall AND the uterus, which is also a muscle.

The bleeding can last whether you have a c-section or not.  I've known women who had uncomplicated vaginal deliveries who bled for 14 weeks afterwards.

It's very doubtful she damaged anything long term - my teeny weeny SIL, all of 7 stone soaking wet and 5ft., 6in. gave birth to two sons - one 9lbs. and the other over 10lbs., suffered on long-term damage.

The uterus is made to stretch massively in pregnancy.
