What's the weirdest thing you've eaten?
« on: January 02, 2006, 04:13:37 PM »
I'm not terribly adventurous with food so the weirdest things I've eaten are shark and alligator. But, my daughter who is traveling for six months and currently in Cambodia just sent me this: "Yeah, so I mentioned I'd been taking on some of my fears, trying to do something every few days which scares me....So yesterday I ate a fried tarantula! And you know what? It was actually pretty tasty. The legs were good, salty and crunchy. Bit like chicken. The body itself was a bit dodgy, there was some funky white stuff and I asked Tiger (our guide) what it was....He said it was the eggs....I handed the rest to him."

All I have to say is  [smiley=puke.gif] ! I think I'm off chicken now!

Frog's legs and calamari, I know this may not be that adventurous but for me it was.

I would have  [smiley=puke.gif] when they told me that too about the tarantula.

Definitely couldn't eat tarantula. :-X ewww!!!

I've had:

armadillo (was tricked into that one >:()
antelope
squirrel
rattlesnake
frogs legs
alligator
escargot (just tasted like mushrooms in garlic butter which I'd rather have)

And would NEVER eat any of them again unless I was starving. :P

I forgot to post, frog legs, snails and calamari, though I like the latter.

i have eaten, and enjoyed all of these things... but this is probably the limit to how far i will go on the 'weird foods' scale.

Calamari, alligator, frog's legs, eel and I would eat them all again, except for the frog's legs. They were a little too much like wee little.... well... legs. I like to try and eat whatever the regional "weird thing" is when I travel.

When I was little I ate chocolate covered ants. I was a bit more adventurous when I was kid.  ;) The weirdest thing I have had as an adult is Octopus.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I've had:

alligator (a tradition for tailgaters here whenever UT plays Florida  ;) )
Shark
frogs legs
escargot (which I liked, but I had a hard time getting over the fact I was eating a snail)
Haggis (does that count? Most people in the states haven't had it)
Chocolate covered ants
Goat
Calamari (although I dont really consider that weird...maybe I'm weird? lol)
Taco....with cows tounge meat. (I ate it, but no one told me what it was until after I was 1/2 way done!)

I love trying new foods. Whenever I'm traveling, I refuse to eat at the local McDonalds....If I'm in another country I want to try new stuff. It's part of exploring a new culture.

I lived in Japan for a year, so I've eaten some pretty weird stuff.  There was a lot of pressure to 'try' everything. :-X

Lucky! Japan is one of the places I really want to go!

I'll try any food once. Doesn't mean I'll take more than one bite, but at least I can say I've tried it.
