Bank Statements?
« on: January 07, 2006, 09:29:16 PM »
So after reading through the Visa stories I noticed everyone said something about having their bank statement and their SO bank statement. Why is this?

I have a bank account, which I rarely use. I had it mainly for when I started college and I got my financial aid checks. Then I stopped going to school and got a job and when I get paid I just get the check cashed, it never sees the inside of my account.

I was wondering if being in the negative side in your account has any reprocautions? I've been in the negative before...not recently but I have been before and was wondering if that's why they want to see it.

Should I start automatic transfer into my account with my paychecks?  :-\\\\

It provides proof of address, income and assets.  I'd have your checks put in there ASAP.  It helps build your credit as well.  They won't do a credit check on you but your bank statements help prove you can support yourself without public funds.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Well were not getting married anytime soon. I was just wondering and I'm kind of getting the whole thing down so I'm not shocked when it does happen.

I'll start having my checks put into my account. How does it build your credit? I thought you had to buy stuff ON credit to BUILD credit? I just bearly got this job 2 months ago and I had no credit before so...I should probably get a credit card or something so I can prove I have good credit.

I live at home and make like $450 every 2 weeks. I couldn't support myself (house, food, bills) if I lived alone...seeing as I live in Southern California.

Your credit rating is not just based on credit cards.  Obviously credit cards can help show your ability to pay debt but having money in an acct shows you don't live beyond your means.

I take it because you are in this forum that you will be coming to settle in the UK.

If thats the case, then a bank statement from you isnt necessary. I was told by the UKVisa enquiry line that if my Partner was coming here to settle, a bank account from him sure as hell wouldn't hurt our chances but isnt always needed. They would be more interested in what my bank details showed as i will be his sponsor.
What they WILL be looking for is your partners bank statements to prove that he can support you ( being your sponsor ) without falling back on public funds to help in any way.

Of course a bank statement from you will help your application a lot and i do suggest that you start having your pay checks paid in straight away. But they will be more interested in your partners bank details as he is the UK resident and you will be coming here to be with him.

I figured when you bought things on credit that meant you bought things with a credit card...or you have to have one to use credit. I'm going to get one and start with little things to get a credit rating...because it could help here and when i eventually go there.

Eventually...

So they'd need my boyfriends bank details...not mine?...he's got all the credit and such and he always pays his bills. I plan on getting my checks transfered into my account seeing as that will help me when the time comes.

Like i said before, it definately would help your case if you did get bank statements.
I was told that it would be mine they would be more interested in.
Try to get your b/f to call the Visa line for some info and see what they say to him.
To call the UK-Visa enquiry line you should be prepared to call and call and call until you eventually get through.
Thier number is 020 7008 8438
