Have you applied anywhere?  My first instinct is to say not with only a BA.  Maybe if you had an MA or an MFCC you would qualify for the HSMP.  But with a BA and 3 years experience, I don't know that you'd have enough points.  Otherwise, you'd have to apply from outside the UK and hope someone would sponsor a work permit for you.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

jimmy, what type of counseling did you do? I find it hard to believe that you could actually do 1:1 counseling anywhere in the States with only a BA. When you say counseling, do you mean something other than 1:1 therapeutic counseling? If so, you may be able to explore something like social work. You won't be able to be credentialled as a QSW but there are other social care positions you might qualify for. Check out www.gscc.org.uk to see if you will qualify for anything. Good luck!

Scary as it is, you can practice as a "counsellor" in the UK without a license or a degree.  :o But you can't register with the British Psychological Society and you probably wouldn't actually get a job as a counsellor - you could just practice on your own (no, I am NOT suggesting this is a good idea AT ALL - just telling the story....) To register with the BPS is a very long and tedious process that will involve (probably) doing a conversion course to convert your US degree to an English honours degree, doing a Master's to obtain the Graduate Basis for Registration, and then doing some sort of further work after that to get full registered status (there are many routes for this last bit - all outlined on the BPS website.)

It took me MONTHS to get a job even remotely related to psychology/counselling and I've got an Advanced Diploma (aforementioned conversion course) and am a bit more than half finished with my MSc.

It's a long haul, but it can be done.... Good luck!
