Help Needed
« on: January 12, 2006, 05:03:20 PM »
I don't know if any of you have gone through this situatuation before, but im gonna ask just in case.

While i was with my ex husband ( 16 yrs ) we had 4 children and after my 4th i had my tubes tied so i didnt need to have anymore.
My new partner-husband to be, doesnt have any kids of his own and would like just 1.

For him, i am going to find out about getting the op reversed so we can try for a baby of our own.
I am still young enough (33) to have children without to much risk.

The questions i want to ask are

1. If any of you have had the op, was it NHS or private and how long did you have to wait for it to be done
2. How long after the op did it take for you to fall pregnant
3. If you had the op done privately, How much did it cost?

I know it can be done on the NHS, but i really dont want to have to wait too long.

I had my tubes done after my last child...

Are they able to redo them?

Dr. asked me several times about doing them as once he did them that (in my case) they couldn't be undone....as mine were cut, tied and burned on the end..NO chance of me ever being able to get preggers........

I can't help with the way of getting them undone...good luck tho...

excuse my french,  but  OH sh*t.

I had mine cut, tied and burned too.
I was kinda hoping that it could still be reversed.

I will make an appointment at my docs soon and find out for sure.

Thanks MeShell

I don't know if this applies...but on the NHS isn't every couple "allowed" one IVF treatment or something like this? I could be way off base...but even though your tubes are tied, they can still retrieve your egg and fertilize them with hubby's sperm...not the most romantic way to get the job done, but it works!  :)

In theory, yes.  In reality, wait lists can be very, very long in some areas.

Best to consult a professional on this, Dave~Jane.  In some instances, a tubal cannot be reversed (just as some vasectomies can't be reversed), but a gynaecologist needs to assess this.

http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/

This is the NHS website, you might find what you need here or there is a number on there you can phone if not.

side comment: nothing permanant.  my mother had her tubes cut & burnt (cautorized).  13 years later she was pregant with twins (at 41).  when they went in to do the C-section, they saw that one of the tubes had grown back together ever so slightly.  she had them cut & burnt again.  my father is now cut as well.  double insurance.  taught me the lesson of birth control...
