(o)edema of feet

Looks like this is going to be one of my plagues. I've barely seen my ankles in the last week. Any suggestions for a brand/style of shoes that I can wear to work? Ideally they would be 'career' style or semi-casual. But if I have to, I'll switch to laces/velcro or whatever.

When I was pregnant, the most comfortable shoes I could wear, were a pair of traditional style mocassins, the kind that go up your ankle a bit, my mom had got them for me from Santa Fe, and they were just about all I wore, I realize they might not work for work, ( no pun intended) but perhaps other times? Also, they might have a nice style that would be acceptable...

I lived in some leather mules from NEXT and a trendy pair of trainers w/a velcro fastening from Bronx.

I didn't have this problem, but you could try Ecco they do shoes for all shapes and sizes.

For home, don't forget some nice flip flops!  I lived in them before giving birth to Aillidh.

My oedema spread to my calves.  They were HUGE, the size of cricket bats.  Once the swelling went down about a fortnight after the births, I had forgotten their normal size. 

Go cheap on these shoes, cuz you'll probably go back to your normal size postpartum.

They're not particularly cheap, but I found Birkenstocks to be very comfortable.  Plus, you can adjust them so you can wear them after the swelling dissipates.

Keep the feet up when you can!  :)

Thanks, I think I'll just have to have a good look on the high street and try things on. Most flip flops are out for me as I've never been able to wear anything between my toes. A real bummer. And I can't wear anything to work that doesn't have some sort of heel strap - health and safety gone OTT! I'm thinking those sort of ballet flats with the velcro straps that go across - you know, the trendy ones. Those might work. Especially if I get a wider size.

Shoes were always more of a problem for me than clothes.  With the first two I lived in Docksiders-old beat up ones.  With the third it was mainly trainers or clogs.  Good luck, you'll have to try on a lot of shoes till you find some you can live with.

I had edema really really bad especially with my first son. My feet were so swollen they looked like canned hams! I actually got a few light stretch marks on them. So bad!! The only thing I could do was wear my (ex) husbands trainers which were 4 sizes larger than my own.
Good luck and when youre at home get youre feet way way up! xx

Stacey, I had a look at the site and there are loads of tempting shoes but nothing quite right. Besides, I think Mindy is right, I need to go try them on. *sigh* Another fun day on the high street for me. I've been having the worst luck there lately but ya gotta have shoes!!
