Plane Tickets
« on: January 14, 2006, 08:45:25 PM »
I'm looking at ticket prices for my May trip too see my honey. I know it's cheapest to leave during the week so I'll probably be leaving on May 3rd and come back on May 31st. Maybe even 3rd - 24th...depends on if he wants to work a week while im there. Which I don't really mind cus then I can hang out with his mum and family while he's at work.

Anyway, the last three days on WWW.AA.COM the tickets have been $727.30 which is £412? That is the cheapest it's been in a long LONG time. Those tickets have been that way for over 3 days and every other time I check that price goes up...so I feel this is a sign to get it VERY SOON. Adam on the other hand still wants to wait too see if it gets cheaper ::).  I have a feeling though...the longer he waits the more expensive the ticket will be (the closer it gets to may).

Opinions on when it's the cheapest to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Buy the ticket Closer to the trip or Further away from the trip?  [smiley=inquisitive.gif]

In general, I seem to find better fares booking at least 4-6 weeks ahead.  I would definitely recommend doing a little comparison shopping, though....try www.qixo.com, orbitz.com, etc....they may be able to beat the price on the american airlines site.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

As a travel agent...................

the cheapest seats go first.........they will only go up.

Consolidators can get them at a good price and sell them cheaper than the airlines. if you are lucky enough to get a cheap seat only a couple of weeks before you go..you are indeed lucky...but from booking experience the cheapest goes first........

So we should wait until...the end of Feb for finding better prices than now?

I figured they do...im just wondering because I've been looking since last year in like august at ticket prices and then they were at like $1200 and then they went to $900 and then as low as it has been the last 3 days which is $727... im just worried if we wait any longer that it'll go back UP too $900 or even way more.

Thanks for the advice

From memory I am fairly sure that Jan 31st is when Aer Lingus's prices go up, so I would reckon other airlines will do also - if you are seeing good prices now, they are likely the best you will get. After Christmas, before Summer, people don't have money, so prices go down. After finances adjust and it gets closer to holidays, they go back up.

In my experience, you can often get really good last-minute deals ... IF you're the sort of person who can risk waiting for the last minute and taking a chance. I'm not, so I usually end up spending more. If it were me, I'd probably go ahead and book the $727 fare (which doesn't sound all that bad for such a long flight), but then I'm a chicken. Your call!

I'm trying to save him money by telling him to get these tickets ASAP...but he wants to take that chance of getting one lower but honestly I think he'll end up spending more the longer he waits. Then he'll joke about that it's my fault lmfao because I didn't "make" him get these tickets for this price lol then I'll link him too this post and  [smiley=laugh4.gif]  lol kidding. thanks though i appreciate the advice.

yeah...i don' think there is very many holidays from now until may except like valentines day and mothers day and stuff like that. I don't know if they would have much effect on prices...right?   We fly American...I think it's one of those things where once you fly and you get great service that that's the only one you want to take. They are so good...and I've compared to British airlines and OH MY GOD british is sooooo expensive.  :o
