FLR received today!
« on: January 20, 2006, 11:20:48 AM »
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for everyone who has been through this process and posted their knowledge.

I applied for my FLR through the post, sent on Dec 6.  Rec'd a letter from the Home Office that they'd rec'd the application, dated Dec 14.  Today, Jan 20, I rec'd my FLR back from the Home Office.  ( I arrived in Sept on a Fiancee Visa)

It's especially great news, as I have a job lined up and have been waiting for the ok to start.

I'm assuming it took a bit longer because of the holidays, but for others applying through the post, it was about 4 weeks.

Having read through the ILR requirements, I'll start making file now for documents we'll need.

Thanks again for all the advice on these boards!!
Rebecca

If you folks have a minute, what'd you include document-wise with apps?

Or if you listed that elsewhere can you post links to that? Thank you.

EnglandsYank....can you tell me when you sent yours off?  I'm getting ready to send my tomorrow and I'm trying to get an estimate on how long it takes.  I hope I will be in the 4 week category......

I sent it December 13th,got a confirmation letter that they received it on the Dec 16th. And got my visa on January 20th. Keep in mind there were a quite a couple holidays and quite a few bank holidays in that time frame, so I think now that the holiday season is over it could take sooner to get it

I sent my application to them special delivery so they got it the next day.

I'm sending mine as "signed for" or some other comparable service.  i don't want to risk my application and passport getting lost in the Royal Mail.

Thanks for letting me know.  Looks like most people take about a month to get it.

And this might be a stupid question.....but...what do they do?  Put something in your passport?  Give you a letter to show to your potential employer? And if you have already gotten a job, did your employer even ask to see if you were legal to work in this country?  I'm not going to do it...but i'm wondering if anyone even asks for all the paperwork to see if you are "legal" and how likely i might be to get a job without having all the papers.  I know they check for sure in the US...but I wasn't sure how they are here.....

Its a sticker, similiar to a fiance visa sticker. it says you have limited leave to remain and gives the expiration date of 2 yrs. I got a letter with it stating a bunch of stuff, but mainly that I am able to seek employment or set up employment. I go to a job on Wendsday and I have to bring my passport to show the visa, I'll also bring the letter stating I am employable just in case they aren't familar with the visa.
