My children will be there [ages 5 and 9] but none of the rest of my family will be there due to expense. There are varying degrees of support from my family towards the wedding/move to the UK in the first place so I wasn't really surprised that no one will fly over.

Krissy my wedding is here in Boston.  So all of my family and friends can attend.  Unfortunately, most of Chris' family and friends are unable to attend.  BUT we have decided to have a blessing ceremony in Wales so that his core family: mom and dad, plus good friends will be part of all the hoopla too.  Some backed out due to illness, or no money sorta thing.  So I guess basically we don't feel badly about anyone not able to make it.  This is why we are doing both ceremonies.  I know you were wondering where would be best to get married.  At least now you know there is a solution to have your cake and eat it too.  Marry here in the States and having a blessing ceremony in the UK.  I don't think there is any criteria that says you have to have it right away either.  For instance Chris and I would look to plan ours for say November.  We are marrying in April.  This gives us time to find a house or some place to live and settle a bit.  Right about then my parents would be looking to visit and they will join us at the Blessing Ceremony.   Does that help?

We got married at Bromley Civic Centre too! What a coincidence!  :D  There were 20 of us, including Mark's parents and sister. The rest were my British friends, mum and brother. I wore a white medieval dress trimmed with silver, with long sleeves, and Mark wore a tuxedo. I had one bridesmaid who wore blue. We had a professional photograther take a few photos and released 6 white doves after the ceremony. We then had a wedding breakfast at a local restaurant called Chapter One, with a sponge cake topped by a rat bride and groom (we met through The Rat Fan Club).
It was a very cold day but really great. Wish I could do it again!

What a cool coincidence, yeah! It's a lovely place for a wedding- we were really pleasantly surprised! Did you take advantage of the  gorgeous house out back for your photos? Such lovely people at the Bromley Registrar's office- I'm actually really very sad we moved away from Bromley- I grew to really love it over the 4 years (last 2 spent actually living there instead of just visiting!)

We weren't quite as glamorous about our choice of venue for our wedding day lunch, though- We had it at the Richmal Crompton Wetherspoons on the high street (much to our witnesses chagrin! hehe We encouraged them to be relieved since they had offered to pay for it!)

lovely photos!

Thanks! Bromley is nice isn't it? Though we actually live in Crystal Palace. Where do you live now, and where are you from? My hubby is from Boston.

I hope no one minds my digging up an old topic but I found it in a search.  My fiance and I have our hearts set on a wedding in Gretna Green, Scotland.  My parents and best friend hope to be there.

The only part we're nervous about is leaving the country on my fiancee visa.  From what I read, I need to take a marriage certificate and make sure to return before the visa expires.  I hope that's all!  It's just that I've always dreamed of an island getaway for a honeymoon.

Awesome, I don't mind since I just got married and am VERY into weddings right now :)

I got married on August 5, 2006, to Daniel, in Vermont.  The weather was amazing!  I showed up with my girls in a Ford Excursion limo.  That thing was loaded!  We had a full Mass Catholic wedding and I accidentally put his ring on his right hand!  :o  Oops!  It took him several minutes to pry off his right hand, but it lightened the mood for everyone and after that I was finally able to relax!!

Our ceremony was held at a ski lodge on Killington Mountain and the mountains were a beautiful backdrop for the evening.  We had a full sit down dinner after appetizers.  There was lots of dancing and craziness!  Everyone had a great time.  I felt like a gorgeous princess and it truly turned out to be my dream wedding!

Aah Killington.

And the mention of Boston.

You guys are all making me miss home.

Kristina, your wedding sounds brill.

Our wedding is not for a year and a half, but we plan to "elope" to Scotland when I get my COA approved, but we will not have rings and I will not wear a dress.

The real wedding will be in SE Asia, on the beach of a remote island with our closest family and friends.

Er, from what I understand, you may not be let back into the UK if you leave the country before getting your FLR(M) after the wedding i.e. it is very illegal.

It goes without saying that I won't do anything illegal.  I'll just have to wait for the FLR then.  We have nothing but time.

Our wedding was at the end of July, and it combined elements of a Scottish wedding and a traditional American wedding. We hired a bagpiper and the men wore kilts. We got married in a seaside town in Massachusetts, in an old New England church built in the early 1700's. Our reception was in a historic wine cellar with a large fireplace. It all felt very timeless. It was an intimate wedding, with mostly only family members, because only his immediate family and their spouses could come over from Scotland. (His family had the time of their lives the two weeks they spent visiting, especially with all the local pubs in town. ;)) The only bad thing was the fact that it was a scorching hot day, and we were all at melting point because there was no A/C in either building, and the Scottish men were wearing wool kilts! But it was a beautiful and unique wedding, and we'll never forget it. Best of all, all the crazy stresses of wedding planning are over, and we're happily married! :)

Congrats Honeybee I am glad to see you had such a lovely day. Hope you are both enjoying your new home together back in the states!  :)

My wife and I got married at Newstead Abbey in Ravenshead near Mansfield north of Nottingham.

The ceremony was at 11am on the 1st September 2003. It was a lovely day, not too hot, not too cold, a few clouds in the sky but they were nice white ones... and gave the sky a sort of dramatic feel.

Apart from an initial panic (there were no ushers when we got there!) the day went really well...

I wore a full on formal dress kilt outfit (i have scottish roots), and my wife wore an elizabethan style dress that a friend of my parents made for her - she did a wonderful job and didn't ask for anything in return.

It was the happiest day of my life ;D

OMG!!!  I love that venue!!!  Newstead Abbey is fantastic.  I hope to be doing some work with that venue.

So how are things going setting up your wedding planner business in Derbyshire, Ronnie?

(I met Roni on http://hitched.co.uk)

As for me, planning our wedding for May 1st, 2007. Right now, our first choice venue is The Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl, Wales. [:)] It'll be a small thing, and then in about a year, we hope to have a second wedding back home in Southern California.
It's so green!
