Dual Voltage Dryers & Curling Irons
« on: January 27, 2006, 04:34:10 PM »
Just an FYI to those panicking at the thought of arriving in the UK sans hair dryers and curlings irons: ConAir makes dual voltage styling implements that are very, very reasonably priced. They are available at WalMart, K-Mart, and Target, as well as other stores. I bought a hair dryer for &19.95 and a curling iron for $12.95. The great thing is that I can go back and forth with it and not have to have a US and UK set. (Am I the only person who did not know these were available?  :-[)

So, I guess all I have to do is buy a plug adapter now. Should I wait until I'm over there or get one here?

i didn't know about these either.  should pick up some next time i'm in the US.

as for plug convertors- cheaper in the US.  also one less thing to worry about getting over here.

I have a Conair curling iron, curling brush and straightening iron and they have all worked brilliantly since I've been here. They are cheaper at Wal-Mart than Target.

Thanks, I happened to be in Target when I spotted them but haven't picked up the curling iron yet. I will go to Wal-Mart for the curling iron.

ooh nice!

I did the whole hairdryer and curling iron or "curling tong" as they say here hunt. I could not help but do the math and gasp at how much a simple "necessity" would be in dollars.

Then again, I haven't bought a new hair dryer and curling iron in years so what do I really know! Also, until recently I've always had long hair and have been low maintenance.

I paid £19.99 for the dryer and £14.99 for the iron.

For the very brave and those not expecting to make frequent transatlantic journeys, you can buy UK plugs at the £ shop (mine was a two pack for £1) and change it.

I found out last night that rewiring plugs is in the syllabus here! No wonder it was so easy to find them!

Thanks for the info! I was wondering how I was going to dry my hair those first few days. My hair is naturally wavy and when I let it air dry, its turns into a frizzy mess!
