Anzac biscuits
« on: January 27, 2006, 07:54:06 PM »
DH and i cruised over to waitrose today to check it out.  i had never been there and he said that i would love it since i think trader joe's in the US is the best thing since sliced bread.  anyway...we are cruising the biscuits aisle when we come to these things called Anzac biscuits.  the package says there are made of oats and golden syrup and one other thing that i can't remember.   mmmmaaaannnnn....these things are great.  they are just like the Mother's Taffy sandwich cookies in the US...minus the creamy filling part.

i'm hooked on these things....they are my new favorite!!

has anyone else tried them?

I didn't know Waitrose had them. They are an Australia/New Zealand thing they make for Anzac Day. What brand are they?

now that i have the package in front of me...i mind as well have a couple more!   :P

and you're right...if i had looked at the package a little closer i would have seen that they are from australia/new zealand.

anyway.....they are UNIBIC and came from australia apparently.  they are distributed by Siro (UK) Ltd.  maybe you can check their website at www.unibic.com and see if there is a listing of stores that carry them.

Thanks for that, can't find any info about UK stockists on their site, oh well never mind.  I'll have a look in our local supermarkets.

hee hee, no wonder I like Waitrose! It IS like TJ's!

My friend and colleagues accuse me of being posh... I also like M&S.

Speaking of, observing the old ladies with their plaid wheelie shopping carts I thought if I ever stayed here in my old age, I'd definitely get one of those. I was at M&S this evening and they sell black ones that fold up for £7.99!! I restrained myself (I REALLY do want one) though because I am about 40 years too young.  ;)

oh...i love m&s too...but the one near me is mainly clothes with a small food section...i wish it where the other way around.

when i was still in the US i bought a TJ's bag that i would take with me every time i went...and believe me...if they had one with wheels, i would have bought that as well.  now...i just take my backpack with me every time i go to the store...i learned that real quick after i bought a bottle of wine, 5 lb. bag of potatoes and a couple other bottles of stuff.  it was ssssoooo heavy....i thought my arms were gonna fall off by the time i got home.

but yeah....i think i'm a bit too young for a wheelie thingy as well....

yeah, I make the supermarket trek with my reusable bags every week. one day I will break down and bring my backpack! I've done the sack of potatoes and bottle of wine  journey. I was trying to explain to my friend why I buy dried beans instead of cans but he didn't get it... they are just too heavy to carry! car drivers, pfft! :P

I like meandering through the aisles and reading labels but I have thought of having it delivered. I work though and live alone in a flat in a locked building so not too sure how that would work out?

It helps with the budget though! Only can buy what I can carry!

as long as you have your own doorbell it shouldn't be a problem getting it delivered. if there are stairs they will carry it up for you too.   we just get all the heavy stuff and boring stuff like loo paper delivered once a month then buy fresh stuff every few days, i have tried having fresh produce delivered but have never been happy with their selcetions, better to choose your own.  But yeah I know what you mean about the budget!!

Do you know, I bought one awhile back, and it was only £1.49!! It was on sale, and I like it because it folds up real small, and the wheels tuck up. Yes, I've used it for shopping. ;D

£1.49!!! Oh I would have been all over that too!! I saw them at the checkout so I didn't feel so welcomed to open it up and see how big it is and explore it in depth.

We should start a new trend. Young women shopping with wheelie carts!!  ;D
