Sleepover parties
« on: January 29, 2006, 02:42:42 PM »
Half term is coming up and thought Jess (if she does her homework every day) can have a sleepover party as a treat. So has anyone hosted a sleepover party? What sort of things do I need to keep them entertained. What sort of games would be good for 5-7 year old girls? Anyone wanna recommend some films for them to watch?

Can't help with the films as I'm not up on what that age group is watching these days. But, I hosted sleepovers several times a year for Celeste starting when she was about three years old until she was in  her late teens!

I found that as long as you have plenty of snacks on hand, you don't really need to do much more. Playing Twister was always a hit as was baking cookies. We liked to do sugar cookies and let the kids decorate them. Treasure Hunt was always another popular game. If I think of any others, I'll let you know.

Have fun!

ug.  I hate sleepovers.

You don't need to plan too much to do-keep the sugar and the scariness to a minimum.  Don't start too early and have an earlyish pick-up time.  Be prepared to be a hard ass about late night giggle-fests.  And good luck.  :)

Ooh, sleepovers are so fun!  You could buy some cheapie cosmetics and hair bobbles and let them play "beauty shop".  Maybe Princess Diaries 1 and 2 would be fun for them to watch?  A bit more grown-up than animated flicks, but not "too" grown up if you know what I mean.  I remember when I was younger, at one sleepover I went to, the Mom of the girl hosting it wanted to show "Dirty Dancing" and my Mom was NOT thrilled about it.  She made me promise to cover my eyes if anything go too risque'  ::) As if!  ;D

I agree with others--you don't need to plan too much. Early pick up is essential especially at that age because they will all be grumpy from lack of sleep! A craft project or two could be fun! I also find letting them make their own individual pizzas is fun and takes care of food.

Have you tried googleing it? There are tons of websites with ideas. I've helped plan a few in the past, and my sister and I had them all the time when we were little. We use to watch tons of Disney "Princess" movies, and old musicals like Sound of Music or My Fair Lady. My mom would give up some of her old make up and we would give each other "make overs" and we would play dress up for hours.
