We currently live in Singapore, but will be moving to the Birmingham area soon. We previously lived in Solihull (for about 2 years), but we rented then. This time, we want to buy. We are considering Solihull again, but what other areas are out there that are nice? It would be great if we could find a nice area, but a little cheaper than Solihull so we could have a bigger house.

My husband will be working near the airport, so we need something that is fairly easy for commuting, so we we'll be looking for something in which he doesn't have to travel across B'ham to get to work.

I've been looking at houses online and there are some brand new houses in Coleshill, in an area called Gilson (it's actually between Water Orton and Coleshill). I don't know anything about this area and am trying to find out it's it an ok area. Also, if anyone knows what the commute would be like during rush hour, I'd appreciate the info. I know it's not that far away from the airport (about 7 miles), but I don't know what impact the traffic will have on the journey.

What are some other nice areas we could consider? We would ideally like to buy a brand new house, but there doesn't seem to be many on the east side of B'ham.

Thanks in advance!

Im in Coventry which is about 20 min from Birmingham airport. I like it here!

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in Harborne, Birmingham which seemed pretty nice.

Hi Pebbles,
What part of Coventry are you in? What are some good areas there? A 20 minute commute would be ok. Do you take the A45? Does the traffic into B'ham get really backed up in the mornings?

We have some friends in Meriden, but other than that, I know nothing about Coventry.

Thanks!

Redditch and Bromsgrove are good and the properties are reasonable and it is about 20 mins half hour dependent on which way you go.

There is studley and longbridge, rubery, west heath these are nice areas and you can get onto the motorway easily from any one of these area's and again are all about 20mins away.
