Quinny Zapp?
« on: January 30, 2006, 08:05:51 PM »
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some input on the Quinny Zapp, does anyone have it and how do you like, or not like it? I need something smaller for my 18mth old as the Bugaboo is getting to be too cumbersome.
TIA
Joanne

Don't have one b/c I find them beyond fugly, unfortunately.  My Maclaren Quest does the job just fine and is a lot less expensive and easier to clean.  I find it lightweight, too - can carry it over my shoulder up to our 2nd floor flat no bother.

Oh I should mention, one of the reasons we are thinking the Quinny is you can take it on a plane as a carry on, this would be especially useful to us due to 3 hr change overs on the east coast to get to the west coast.

We have the Quinny freestyler and wouldn't buy one again.  The zapp just looked so uncomfortable to me.  We took our huge quinny on the plane with no problem.  They just take it at the gate and it didn't count against our carry on allowance.

Don't worry Otterpop I have never heard of a Quinny Zapp either!!

Funny enough we are thinking of getting a more portable buggy as well, I saw a McLaren Triumph in Boots the other day which looks good, and kiddicare.com have them a LOT cheaper than the RRP (£41 instead of £70).

I have a Maclaren Triumph as well which is BRILL, Britwife!  VERY lightweight and easy to fold w/just one hand once you get past the stiffness that comes w/a new buggy.  I'm 5ft., 3in. and yet can still carry the buggy over my shoulder w/o it smacking my feet.

For £40 I'd say go for it!

Just out of interest, why do you not like the freestyler? I have the Bugaboo and wouldn't buy one of those again either, way expensive and everyone and there mother owns one practically. I'm sick of looking at them.

Thanks for the info Expat, I must say I was wondering if it was really one touch. The One we have now was supposed to be but isn't really unless you are a contornionist and your baby doesn't mind swinging upside down on your arm while you do it.  ;D

I just googled the Quinny Zapp, it looks like a nice pram, they have those cheaper than rrp on kiddicare too (£115).

It's stiff to begin w/Britwife, as they all are.  But now even I can fold it down one-handed, and I'm all thumbs when it comes to these things.  It's light as well.  Lighter than my old Chicco.

You can take any umbrella stroller onto the plane with you, and check it at the gate where it will be stored on board and be waiting for you when you debark. Call your airline to find out their policy.

For many reasons.  The basket is useless, the wheels a bit too wide for most stores, cr@p reclining seat, requires adapters toattach the carry cot and carseat, it's heavy.  I just got a car, but for the past 2.5 years have used the quinny daily and it's lost it's charm.

I've found it for 107 from Germany, free shipping too. If you want to look at it in person, they carry it in mothercare.

We bought a Quinny Zapp late last year (same reasons as you are saying) and I ended up selling it to someone else. I found it a pain to collapse and heavier than our Combi Flash. Like another poster said, most of the time if gatecheck and you are lucky the stroller will be waiting at the ramp as you get ready to exit the plane. But I know this is a gamble - once I was flying alone with DD and another couple was flying with their DD and they only had room for one pushchair so they put mine on the plane as I was travelling alone with her and the other couple had to get theirs at baggage claim.

Anyway, back to the Zapp, I don't like that it is just a fixed seat. I am big on full recline (for diaper changes on the go and for napping). It was ok to manouvre but not exceptional. It is also really heavy to carry and I found it awkward as well.

So now, we have our Combi which we love and have retired from daily use as the London sidewalks were a bit too hard on the wheels for the amount of daily use we put on a stroller. That is the "holiday" stroller for flights, DisneyWorld etc. For everyday use we have the Chicco Ct4.0 "London" which we love - it handles the curbs and uneven pavements really well and has the full recline and a nice size basket underneath. Got it for the equivalent of £100 in Switzerland - not sure who sells it or what the cost is if you buy it in England.

I ended up selling the Quinny to someone who wanted it to keep in the back of her car for quick errands. It is an ideal stroller for that.
Stop waiting. Start doing.
