baby Bisquick
« on: January 31, 2006, 08:05:57 PM »
I was down the baking aisle looking for cake mix and let out a giggle when I saw the 500g Betty Crocker Bisquick box... you are joking!!!!! Is this the only way you can buy it in this country? I didn't expect to see the Costco econo size on the shelf, but MORE than 500 grams puhleeze!! No wonder people have written on other threads they "stock up" when it goes on sale. No kidding,  between the size and price (£1.25 at Waitrose) it makes sense.

omg....i had a hell of a time finding betty crocker cake mix and frosting....in the same store.  i have been able to find chocolate cake mix and carrot cake mix....and only chocolate and vanilla frosting....the real stuff....not that hard marzipan crap.  i got the cake mix at sainsbury's....tho i have seen the carrot one at tesco as well.  and i got the frosting at asda.

dunno if you would be interested in brownies....but tesco, asda and sainbury's all have the betty crocker brownies.....

When I first read this thread I thought "baby bisquick" was some sort of new baby food.   :D

I am so slow sometimes...as soon as I saw caligirl510's post that said 'pancakes' I thought, wait a minute, I've made pancakes, what the heck have I been using to make them?  So I went into the cupboard and oh yes, there's the Bisquick.   ::)

I can't tell what size it is but I guess 500g?  It's like the size of a cake mix box!

On another totally unrelated note, I am making lasagne and don't have enough sauce to put on the top of it and thus just put ketchup on it.  I feel that was a very dumb mistake.... :-\\\\

Have seen white mix before I believe but not yellow - curses.  I DON'T LIKE chocolate cake!

oh, oh...if you've made pancakes, have you found a good syrup?  i'm partial to Mrs. butterworth's...but would definitely settle for anything that tastes similar.  i read somewhere on the forum about looking for the good syrup (stuff like in the US) near the ice cream toppings....???

oh I got homemade brownies down! its the cakes i like fluffy  ;D

I noticed the same thing about what mixes and frostings you can buy... definitely not a huge selection to make every permutation you can imagine like in the states!

i just have waitrose and sainsbury's nearby  :-[ i am not that hard up to take two buses to Tesco or ASDA yet  ;)

The best syrup, IMO, is Lyles Maple Flavoured Syrup... it is right next to the Lyles Golden Syrup.   It's only 99p and is really thick and maple-y.   I find the 'real' maple syrup is too thin and runny... and expensive.

hmm, that will be interesting... layered the top with cheese too? maybe it will mask the sweetness

Re: syrup.  Just checked the cabinet and we have Waitrose Pure Canadian Maple Syrup.  Just like the stuff at home.  My husband went to college in Massachusetts and he is a strict PURE maple syrup kind of guy.   ::)  Me...anything as long as it's sweet.  Otterpop I will try the Lyle's version!  It sounds good.  And you're right, this Canadian syrup was expensive.

Re: lasagna.  Yes it tasted too sweet but not as horrible as I thought.  Husband was kind enough not to mention it although he did look at it strangely.  :)    He felt bad as he said he should have bought 2 jars of sauce...
