I officially don't trust the Royal Mail
« on: February 01, 2006, 05:55:11 PM »
i mailed off my FLR last friday with special delivery for monday due to the importance of the contents.  so monday comes along, i go to the royal mail website, type in my handy dandy tracking number...and it says no information available.  so i'm thinking....ok..maybe it will show up on tuesday.  i check on tuesday....same thing.  so i try again today....same thing....no information available.  ok...now i'm freaking out.  what if my application got lost in the mail?  how am i going to get a new passport?  my DH is gonna flip when he finds out i lost his passport too....FREAKING OUT!!

i go to the post office to mail a package to US and i explain my issue to the mail clerk lady...no information available.  she tells me....oh...well....i guess the only thing i could recommend would be to fill out lost parcel form....at least you can get the &4.25 you paid to mail it.  i was like.....WHAT?  that envelope had my passport in it, my husbands, my credit card information, my marriage certificate and my bank statements....and you are going to offer me &4.25???

on my walk home from the lovely royal mail post office, i remember reading several people on here saying they received a letter about a week after sending their application stating that is was being processed.  so i calm myself down...for the meantime.

in a separate issue that i'm dealing with (the chip & pin thing....dumb bell at sainsbury's said i wouldn't be able to buy anything after 14 feb if i didn't have a c+p card...as i expected) i checked my credit card online....and almost flipped when i saw that there were $700 in charges in the past month....i knew i hadn't been using it that much!!  i check out the details....and there is a $613 charge for "leave to remain".  ppphhhheeeewwww.....thank freakin' god!!

i officially don't trust the royal mail....website.

I don't trust it either.  My friend, in the UK, and I have not received the Christmas cards we sent to each other the last two years and I didn't receive a package he sent me.  He thought I didn't mention the package because I didn't like what was in it when it was really that I NEVER RECEIVED IT!!!!!  I so do not trust the Royal Mail.

Sorry about the stress you were under Caligirl, but I've never had anything but positive experiences with Royal Mail so far.

I mailed a wedding invitation to Cardiff after 4PM once. The next day, I contacted the recipient to give him the information,  since I had sent the invitation out late. He said that he already knew; he'd got the invitation that morning. I was amazed.

They lost 2 packages for my birthday! I've concluded to use Fedex, UPS or electronic means if possible.

While I was moving back to UK from US, I sent over 9 parcels - 4 and 5 at different times.....NONE of them every reached me!!!!!  My friend has tried from the US side and I've tried from this side but because I never insurance them or got proof of posting (I know, I know!! but money was sooooooooo tight that we just could  not run to it), they can, or wont do anything - either side that is!!!!

Some of the stuff in those parcels are probably meanless to others, but to be they were very sentimental and the thought of NINE parcels going missing is enough to make alarms bells rings somewhere surely?????

Since being back in UK, I make and sell cake toppings - and I have sent loads in the post - not one of them has ever got lost or been late - and I've never had to insure any of them!  So what is it with post on either side of the pond - and where are my parcels  :\\\'(

Pauline.

well,

I guess everyone has varying degrees of likes and disliekes regarding royal mail. My husband sent me my valentines gifts last year and after waiting for like 3 weeks or maybe even less it came with no problems. I will say that as the USC i have posted to him and his family as well and as long as put adaquate postage and even over the required postage there where no problems. Also just as a heads up, I worked for the United States Post office briefly before blowing out a disk in my back and FYI... if the outside envelope is addressed in black ink it will get to its destination quicker then addressing it in colored ink and colored envelopes. The reason for this is the barcode and address reader is automated and has to use its "brain" to do logical work.. But anyway good luck to everyone! I too am getting ready to move to England this June as soon as we get our spousal visa approved.

thanks bex

It could be that it was lost on the USA end, so it's not really fair to blame the Royal Mail.

Their website does suck, though... 2 weeks before Christmas i ordered a sheet of 50 stamps on the website, for posting out my Christmas cards... the stamps arrived the 2nd week of January.  ::)

I never got the Christmas card or birthday card my fiance sent me from England.  The lease letter I needed for my visa application arrived in the mail the day they agreed to fax it to me, as I hadn't received it in the last month plus.  Of course - that could have been council lying to cover their ***.....

Well, it may not be fair, but my friend who lives in the UK has sent lots of things to me that I still have not received and even he
says they're a problem.  Almost everything I've sent has made it to him.  Plus, I read a news article on BBC about mail that gets "misplaced" by the RM and ends up in completely different countries.   So....hmmm  ::)

Don't hate them but

My mail used to always go to Castletown Isle of Man, we lived in Castletown CAITHNESS!!!

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

To be absolutely fair, I have had delayed or non-delivered post in the US also.  I know someone who is a postal worker (no, he hasn't shot anyone yet)  and he says US post is unreliable.  So... guess it happens anywhere

I'm sure it happens everywhere, I'm just speaking from my experience.   :P
