and it got here in England, a week after they mailed it from Massachusetts.

That's smart of them! I have a couple stories about something similar
1- last Christmas my brother-in-law and sis-in-law moved from Portland OR to Independence OR
I mailed them a package with the correct address but the old city and zip code!
And it still got there - somehow the Portland post office figured it out, crossed out Portland and wrote Independence and the right zip code!
2- my sister mailed me a letter when I was living in India. she wrote the address all fine but then wrote the city and not INDIA on it. It got returned to her stating "what country?"
