The whole story is posted in my 3 February entry in my livejournal, but I just really need to tell the world: I know the woman who concocted the whole JT Leroy hoax!! I actually knew her pretty well when I was in the US in fact!!! I'm absolutely blown away by it!!!

That's very cool!! Had you read the JT Leroy book before this broke?

Hic! I think I'm still a little drunk now.  ;)

I'd seen an article or two here and there about JT Leroy and the "mystery" but I wasn't intrigued enough to read his/her stuff. I certainly am now!!!! He/she has had pretty universally good reviews, though I'm not sure it's really my sort of thing....

The lovely Helen has given me another link to a new story about it all. I cannot believe this whole thing. If it started in 1996 then I actually still saw her periodically when it was starting. Unreal. I'm not suprised Geoff grassed - he always struck me as reasonably sensible while she was rather a loose cannon.

I'd love to figure out how to get in touch with one of them.

I ordered a copy of that Paris Review issue to be sent to my mom's house so I'd have it there to read when we go for our visit. I can't wait! I'm still completely fascinated!
