Thanks Honeybee...I'll have to remember the name of that shop.

No silk  :o Not good!

Also, mayo has eggs in it and although I'm not vegan, I HATE regular mayo.  I find the taste really gross.

Oh i see... the mayo thing is just a personal preference!  :)
Unfortunately, i doubt you will find that stuff here... unless they have it in specialist shops.

Sorry, Uber_Yank, I thought you were vegan. My mistake!

But I found this -- http://www.veggiestuff.com/acatalog/dips.html

Not sure what it tastes like, but it is egg-free.

My fiance is veg, and I am getting there ;) I found it a lot easier to go meat-free over there than here in the US.

My problem is comments from my family  :-\\\\ The lot of them are rather rude, call me weird, say I am picky etc....at this point I will eat fish and poultry...but am eliminating the poultry soon.

Back to the topic ;)

I noticed there is a lot better selection of veg-friendly foods there (I was in England, dunno about Scotland, but surely it wouldnt be that different?). And restaurants werent a problem for df and I at all. And the fact that things 'safe' for vegetarians or vegans are labelled as such on the packaging was nice.

My other problem is my fiance is a vegetarian that doesnt like vegetables   :o

Good luck with your move in May! :)

Katrina

Only thing is, we miss out on a lot of the 'traditional' English dishes - steak & kidney pie, pasties, yorkshire pudding, etc.

Have you tried the veggie pasties? I have had the cheese and onion, and df has another veggie one all the time...I know its not the traditional pasty with meat, but they are soooo yummy, we'd get them from a little shop in the city centre in Bath when I would accompany df for the day :)

Was it the Cornwall Pasty Company? I love their pasties!! Cheese and mushroom is my favourite.

But if you're in Cornwall, all locals know that Philp's are the best! ;)

Hey Uber-Yank,

I'm a veg also, and just wanted to say, I think you'd have no problems at all being a veg here. I had a harder time being a vegetarian living in NYC. Special vegetarian brand foods were always expensive.

Here, there is a great selection of veg foods, all sorts of brands ( my personal fave is Quorn, that stuff is the best thing since cheese lol ). Labels will indicate what is vegetarian and what's not as well. This place is definitely vegetarian friendly :)

Being a vegetarian in the UK is, as everyone else has said, extremeley easy.

My husband is a vegetarian but I'm not however as we don't like to cook our own seperate maels, I'm forced to eat vegetarian stuff all the time. Although, Jon has begun to try fish again. He doesn't eat it often but I'm glad he does, as a vegetarian he's not getting the essential oils he gets from fish.

Anyways, huge variety, just about every restaurant you'll go to will have a variety of vegetarian options, and the shops are full of vegetarian food. You don't even have to go to specialty shops (although, the shop Honey was talking about, Holland and Barrett, is a chain and is really easy to find).

Although, I have to say, as a non-vegetarian, Quorn is gross.  :P

*GASP* how dare you! lol  :P

Know what's funny, my husband isn't a veg, but sometimes he prefers the mock meat to real meat! He thinks Quorn is actually pretty good lol

I think the mock meat brands here are so much better than the mock meat brands in the US. But that's just my personal opinion.

The only bacon I'll eat is Morningstar vegetarian bacon. It tastes like American bacon (I think because it's an American compnay). Although, they just started getting Oscar Meyer here... but still, Morningstar veggie bacon... good stuff.

But I'd rather have real chicken over quorn. Bleh.

I always thought quorn pieces taste like cardboard.  ;D

Jon also makes the SOS sausage mix. That's ok. And I can only eat vegetarian mince because I've gone so long without eating real beef that my body can't handle it anymore. I get awful stomach cramps from it now. I suppose it just goes to show, though, beef is baaaaaad.

I think I've had that Morningstar bacon stuff once, not too sure on the brand, but I'm pretty sure it was Morningstar. I agree, it's yummy! We were eating it for breakfast one morning and hubby tried to take some of it off my plate and he abandoned his real bacon pieces lol
