Got denied for? Work permits? That was because of our group. They got approved two work permits/sponsorship and I've kept in contact with those two girls. they got promised a lot that didnt occur and regret using them. The job itself is great, but their experience with Pulse was horrible.

Elenas:

That's terrible! I'm glad everything wound up working out for your two friends, but still, the move is hectic enough as it is. It doesn't need to be made worse by inept agency people.

I'll be sending you a private message in a bit. Got a question for you!  :)

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of doing their PQ (post qualifying award) here in the UK. I'd love to start one next year, but I foresee problems as I am still on my spousal visa, and do not yet have ILR. I presume this will mean that my work place would have to fork out international fees for me to start the PQ.

I'm almost at the top of the social work pay scale and unless I do my PQ I can't move onto the advanced social worker scale, so I'm stuck...urgh! Just wondering if anyone on here has any experience of the issue.

Why not approach your manager and whoever in HR who deals with supporting continuious professional development of social workers and see what they say. Do you have an appraisal coming up? It would be a good time to let your manager know of your goals.

Could you negotiate with your employer about splitting the fees? They may be more likely to support you if the financial cost was shared.

Hi Thanks for the advice, It has already been identified in my appraisal by my team manager as something that I need to do, however, she really doesn't have any idea about international/home fee agreements.

I think I'll have to try and negotiate something about payments perhaps. I'll see what happens. The university who run the PQ aren't even really sure where things stand, apparently they don't have a lot of non-uk nationals applying for their PQs.

Hi!  I am looking to move to the UK and work as a social worker.  I have an MSW and am already registered with the GSCC.  I also have several years experience working in child welfare here in the US.   I've applied for several jobs with different London Boroughs but haven't heard back from any of them.  I am wondering how to get my foot in the door.  Should I go ahead and apply for my Tier 1 visa so that I can mark the box that says I am "authorized to work in the UK" on applications?  Would any of you recommend any recruitment agencies?  I've registered with Reed but haven't heard back from them.  I can't apply for any jobs on their website because I don't yet have a visa.  If councils are willing to sponsor social workers, I'd rather go that route.  Applying for a visa is pretty expensive for a social worker.  I'll do it, if needed, though!  Would those application costs be reimbursed in relocation packages?

I'm at a loss!!   ???

Thanks so much for any help you can give me!

Ashley

Hi Elena!  I actually emailed her last night, talked to her this morning, and I'm going to Dallas to orientation with Essex County on the 18th!  I told her that you had given me her email address, I hope that's okay.

Thanks so much for your help!  It's so exciting that you are already over there.  Have fun!

Hey everyone!
I also just graduated with my MSW.  My experience has been mostly with children and families including work in child abuse/neglect investigations and foster care.  I actually just got an email from Kate Woods with Reed Global today and am about to email her back.  I may have to try to find a way to make it up to NYC for the seminar on the 22nd.  But, for those of you who have experience with Reed Global - what do you think?  Also, what are thought on Essex County?  Ive done a little research on the area, but any insider information would be appreciated!!
Id love to have a chance to discuss the possiblility of moving over to the UK to do social work with some of you guys and get your input!
Look forward to hearing from you
Emily

Hi Emily!

I haven't had any experience being hired through Reed (I'm in the same boat as you), but I've been in contact with Kate for a few months now and she's nothing short of fantastic. I can't wait to meet her in person.  ;D

I've been looking into social work in the UK for a couple of years (as evidenced by my many posts in this thread alone, yikes). In all my research, I've never heard anything negative about Reed. I think all their candidates are in good hands.  :)

Idont know much about Essex so I cant help you there.

Please feel free to use my name as a reference: Elena Saldamando.

Reed [Kate Woods and Fiona Harper] have been nothing but amazing. They have held our hands the entire time and never left us in the dark. I am extremely satisfied with their work. I recommend staying away from Pulse staffing.

If you can make it to the orientation, go for it. This has been an amazing experience with no regrets whatsoever. And, the only reason it has been so amazing is b/c of Reed. I start my job on Monday so I'll keep you all posted on how that turns out.

Please do let us know how your first day goes! Again, I'm excited for you. :D

I hope all of us are just as lucky to get that chance.  :)
