Flapjacks
« on: February 16, 2006, 01:09:28 AM »
Hi ;-)

Does anyone have a good recipe for flapjacks?  I moved back to California and now craving them.  Would love to make them for my British hubby.

Thanks in advance...

Do you mean American flapjacks or British flapjacks?

This recipe is pretty good:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/figflapjacks_70047.shtml

I leave out the figs, put in a bit more orange zest and then melt chocolate chips and frost them to make 'Chocolate Orange Flapjacks'

What, exactly, are flapjacks? Like a granola bar or something?

Yeah, they are here, I've seen packaged stuff labeled flapjacks that looks like granola bars, never ate them though so wondered. Always thought of flapjacks as pancakes.

I got introduced to flapjacks on my very first day ever visiting Steve in the UK...  He'd collected me from the Manchester airport and drove us back to Leeds.  I was very jetlagged.  He then persuaded me to run with him down the street through the pouring rain :-X to get some lunch at Ainsleys...he asked for sandwiches & flapjacks -- telling me that we'd have flapjacks for dessert.  I looked at him & I'm thinking 'Riiiight...you'll eat thick pancakes for dessert in England?!?!  But you didn't like IHOP in the States...' ::)

LOL -- but they were yummy!

That's how the light gets in...

yeah...i'm a little lost on this one.  i thought flapjacks was just another word for pancakes.....apparantly not tho.  so...i thought i had a flapjack before...but i guess i haven't.  i don't even think i have seen them in the store?  would i find these in a weird spot in the grocery store like everything else i find?  like near the gravy?  or next to canned lunch tongue?  ;D

I saw them last week at the news stand near the candybars.  perhaps in the biscuit section in the regular grocery store? I dunno... perhaps above the freezer section next to the pickle  ;)

Man, you are missing out if you haven't tried "British" flapjacks!  I prefer the ones from Sainsburys, butter flavor is my fav.

I found loads of recipe's on line and even ordered golden syrup too, so I'll let you know how they turned out ;-)

Hugs,
Terese

I don't think I like them either...I tried one and it just seemed way too dry to me and strange...the same thing happened with these mini hot dog buns that had jam inside of them?  Don't remember what they were called but I was all excited to try it and then thought 'wait this is a hot dog bun!  why the heck does it have jam in it?'  My office mates are always bringing these little snacks in for birthdays and such...fascinating things that I would probably never have bought on my own so I am always happy to try them!  Finally got the Jaffa cakes last week and liked them lots.
