My thing is, I count everything. It drives me crazy when I'm reading, because I count the words in sentences, letters in a word....try to see if the sentence will divide up into equal parts......I don't realize I'm doing it, but when I do I make myself stop, and read on.

i watched this really interesting show a while back ago...tho i can't remember the name of it.  basically it was about weird things that the brain does.  but one lady that was particularly interesting to me was one that saw numbers everywhere she went.  she saw them in patterns of rows that were three dimensional.  she didn't count them per se, but she just saw numbers all the time.  i just couldn't imagine being surrounded by numbers like that all the time.  she said that she had no control over it and there wasn't a situation that triggered it or made it "worse"....she just always saw numbers.  i wish i could remember what the name of it was....the show and her disorder.  it would be more interesting if i could offer a link....

That is OCD. It comes in many, many forms.  Anything from frequent hand washing to counting, to cleaning, to checking and on and on.  It is only when it interferes with your ability to function on a daily basis is it a problem.

there was no mention in the program that i was watching that this lady had OCD....there was a different name for what she was experiencing.  i know what OCD is, i have my own versions of it, and have seen it in other people.  this lady was different...that's why it sucks that i can't remember the darn name of the show.  it wasn't solely about her disorder either.  it was about various other types of "brain hiccup" disorders.

LOL, no I've just heard of the thing before, particularly with colors & music, etc.

Which begs the question...do we have any synaesthetes among us?  Now that would truly be something odd!

I spell things when I am nervous/anxious.  Like if I am going to be late to work, I will have the sentence "I am going to be late to work" in my head and then I'll spell it out over and over until I get to work.  Also, when I type up a purchase order that I am nervous about, I'll spell the entire thing in my head.  From our company name at the top to my contact information down at the bottom.  It's the strangest thing.  It's very calming for me.

Also, when I leave the house I have to check everything (stove, curling iron, coffee pot, etc.) to make sure they are off at least twice.  It can be quite annoying when I am in a rush.

Funny...I was thinking something very similar  :D

I was discussing my odd quirks with my husband last night, and decided that for the most part I'd rather not share with anyone.

Here's something interesting about me - I didn't know brothels were legal in the UK and accidently took a job as a receptionist in one while I was studying there.   :o :o  That didn't last long at all ;D

I didn't know they were legal. I thought the police turned a blind eye in order to keep it under some form of control. So do they pay tax?

:o That didn't last long at all ;D

I bet. Must have been funny as hell, well maybe not at first.

Something oDD... I am a horder. I still have my old computers, some newspapers, magazines, junk and more junk, every so often it gets cleared out...to the loft or the garage. I feel I keep everything. The first time my ex went to my grans house, she knew I was a lost cause. My gran had stacks of newspapers all the way up the stairs. All the rooms were filled boxes of??

Hmmm - just the opposite, I throw out everything - much to my chagrin at times, when I haven't used something for EVER soo long, out it goes - the next day, wouldn't you know it??? it's just what I need
