US/EEA citizens on the boards?
« on: February 20, 2006, 09:40:50 PM »
I'm interested to see if there are any dual US/EEA citizens on the boards here. DH and I are dual US/Irish citizens, with passports for both. We live in the US now, and are planning to go to the UK late this year/early next year to live and work for approximately a year (or more, depending on how it goes).

From all the research we've done so far, we are eligible to just come over and start working with no need for visas, work permits, etc. The thought was to leave the US on our US passports and enter the UK on our Irish passports.

Would anyone who has been in this situation please provide some info based on your experiences? Any problems leaving the US/entering the UK? Will we get the 3rd degree at immigration in the airport if we have our Irish passports and speak with our American accents? Have you just applied for a job with your EEA passport in hand?

Thanks!

I'm a UK/US dual national and I have had no issues coming back to London to work and live.  You should not have any issues either.

Another dual national here. No problems whatsoever. You're a UK citizen entitled to everything that any UK citizen is entitled to! Yaye us!!

Not actually a UK citizen, but as an Irish national you have pretty much the same rights as a UK citizen...far more than any other EEA national would.

Will there be any problems if we enter the UK with one-way tickets and our Irish passports with no prior visas on them? We've never gone through that side of the immigration/customs line before!  :)

No.  You go in through the EEA nationals queue and there will be no problems at all.

Great, thanks for the info.

Sorry if there was confusion regarding my original post... I've been reading the boards for a while and have had difficulty finding posts from folks in our situation.

The amount of info here is amazing and SO helpful! We've really learned a lot.
