Leftovers
« on: February 22, 2006, 11:50:30 PM »
How long do you keep leftovers?  My mom and I disagree on how long leftovers can be saved.  My mom will save things for a week, then warm them up and eat them.  I think the max is 2 days.  Share your leftover thoughts :)

Since there are only 2 of us, lots of time I freeze the leftovers. If not, we usually have it about 2-3 days afterwards (hubby doesn't like to eat the same thing 2 days in a row). Anytime longer than that, and it seems to disappear into the back of the fridge until I discover it later on with penicillin growing on it!

Same as you, one or two days only unless frozen immediately.

We give them three days and then we get antsy about eating them.

It really depends on what it is. If it's chili or home cooked soup, something like that,  I'll keep it for longer. But otherwise two days is about it.

Depends on what it is! Fish needs to be eaten the next day, but for veggie dishes I don't fuss too much. Few days maybe.

Probably three days, but sometimes it gets shoved to the back and forgot about, then it's scary to open the lid......but I freeze as well, especially if I've made a huge pot of something, like soup, or chili.

Agree with SillySnip, but leftovers at our house don't usually last (without someone eating them!) beyond 2-3 days anyway!  DH and I tend to cook differently -- he makes only enough for one meal (usually) while I tend to either cook enough for an army (and freeze some afterward) or else at least for two meals (saving us from having to cook another day). :)

Usually about three days for us, no more.

If it's meat or fish, I won't eat it if it's more than 2 days old. Other stuff, maybe 3-4 days.

Thank you for all the input.  Looks like the average is 2-4 days, not 7 days, like my mom does.
