Wanting to move back to the US....
« on: February 25, 2006, 11:43:26 PM »
I told hubby this past week that I want to move back to the US for awhile, at least for a few years or so. I miss my family and friends so much. I think it only fair since I've lived here for almost 6.5years. It won't be any time soon, though. I've got to finish my degree first! So, it would be after late 2007/early 2008. It wouldn't necessarily be back to Florida, as I've acclimatised far too much here, but somewhere further north. :)

I'm not sure how to go about stuff really so will have to find out getting hubby over there, etc. and figure out how to send our cats over there too. Can't bear to leave them with family in the UK.

Anyway, .... I hope things will go smoothly for us when we do go over.

Good luck with everything!  I was going to ask your move in your "cat" post, but didn't want to get off the subject!  We made the move back in December, and are still getting life straightened out, but my daughter (16) is just so excited to be in a US high school!  So, Happy Planning to ya and hang in there...try to make the remaining time as great as you can so that you can leave without regrets!  (something I didn't quite ever seem to master!!)

Sounds like you will have plenty of time to file the visa for your DH.  Wishing you well as you complete your degree and with your move.

You've got plenty of time like maddierose said, and let us know how we can help. It is easier to get the visas in your situation, having been in the uk for a long time. You'd be following the DCF process probably, which is detailed in another topic in this section, though small details do change so you'd have a slightly different process than anyone else - everyone seems to have a different process beause they change the rules so much! It is a hassle to get the paperwork sorted, but loads of us have done it and lived, so you are in good company. Good luck with the rest of your degree!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Your situation sounds similar mine except I'm just about to finish my degree in May. We're in the process of sending away our forms to get a date for the interview in London. I can't wait to move back either! Good luck...  [smiley=daisy.gif]

Hi Honeybee,

I wish I was going back THIS spring, but it’s this darn degree. It’s taken me forever to decide what I want to major in so I need to stick to it. When I’m done, I’ll have a BA (Hons) in Literature from the Open University. Now, I could ask if I’d be able to get materials in the US so I wanted to go over, I could in theory. I’d even pay extra for the postage!! I know I could get a job as a substitute teacher at least.

Other than waiting on my degree, we’re in the process of selling to rental properties. We’ll have to sort those out since they’ll be used to pay off debt! Then if we do get a house in the meantime, all we will do is put it with an agency to rent out so it pays for the mortgage. We’ll do the same in the States if we ever go back.

Not sure if we’ll go back to Florida or not, though. I don’t think I can hack the Florida heat. I’m so used to it here and the FL weather isn’t good for my allergies. It all depends on where hubby can get a job since he’s the one to worry about.

Anyway, hope everything goes smoothly for you!   [smiley=clover.gif]
