Visa Application
« on: December 04, 2003, 08:57:12 PM »
I have completed my visa application online and indicated that I would bring the documents in person.  I checked the guidelines and think I have what they need, but not sure. ???

I have 3 months worth of bank statements, my investment portfolio statements, our most recent paystubs, a letter from our friend in London indicating that we are welcome to stay with him until we find our own place, my cv, my photos :P. My husband and I both live and work here, so he is not employed in the UK.  Hope this isn't a problem.  My impression is that as long as you can show that you will be able to support yourselves, then we should be okay?  I hope so cause I would hate to lose $455 LOL  Any advice would be welcomed.

How about a copy of property ownership or agreement from the landlord of the property?
Oh, and a cover letter explaining how you met and your intentions, etc.

Hi Everyone!

I'm getting married in less then 4 weeks!!! We'll be going to the consulate in New York on January 2nd.  We too have decided to do the fast track.. Can someone please tell me all the documents they provided to support the application?  Until I read this post I didn't realize I needed a cover letter   ???

So far I have our pay stubs, our bank statements, a letter from my boss, a letter from Dave's commanding officer, both of our birth certificates, mortgage statements,  his divorce papers, my 401k statement, and my resume.  Should I bring copies of our emails?  Should I bring a photo album?   How did you present this?  I bought a binder with dividers to put copies of all this info in, but how did you present the originals?

I'm starting to get nervous about all of this stuff  :o !!! I hope you can help!

Thanks,

Maureen

Yep, we have a copy of the Land Registry with his name as owner of the property.

Do you mean a cover letter regarding how we met our friend?  I guess my husband can do something for that as they've been friends for 17 years. If you mean regarding my husband and I-would we still need that?  We've been married for almost 9 years all of which he's been in the US living with me.

Yes - just an overview of the history and plans for the future. I have only applied for the fiance visa and FLR, not sure if you would need the same for the visa you are requesting  ???

How did you present this?

I had a binder with an index (stating contents of the binder)and everything tabbed (dividers). I had all originals and a set of copies for them to keep for their records.

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for your help!   If you don't mind me asking what did you write in your letter? Did both of you sign it or did just one of you?

Thanks,

Maureen

If you keep in mind the basic stuff and have as much to hand to prove it, you should be just fine.

We took an accordian-style folder, each pocket labeled with the type of contents, for easier grabbing. They ask a question and want proof, quick finger search/whip it out.

When I say 'keep in mind the basic stuff' I mean that if you're applying for a wife visa, read carefully the stipulations of qualification. Things like being married. Okay, bring the marriage certificate. No access to public funds. Okay, prove how you can live. Bring papers on how you have money, show who provides this and bring papers on what sort of dwelling you will be in. Etc.

Basically, read through the qualifications and bring every scrap of paper you have to prove that you qualify in every aspect.

But don't be disappointed if you bring 100 sheets of proof and they only ask for 5. At least you'll be prepared.

It was astounding to me to see the people who were applying for a visa and didn't even bring something no-brainer as their passport along!

Hi!
All I wrote was a little background of our situation, our intentions for the move, where we were going to live, how I was going to support myself, plans for future employment, etc. Kevin and I both signed it
As LisaE said, just make sure that you have "proof" for all of their requirements. Go through the check list and make sure you have back up documentation for everything and anything else you think will help leave no doubt in their mind.
Please keep us posted!

Thank you Missy & LisaE   :)

I know I'm probably stressing myself out for no reason... My anxiety levels are increasing day by day as we get close to the wedding date... I don't know what's causing it more the wedding or the visa!

I know I'll be fine! Thanks again for all of your help!   :)

Feeling the stress is our mind's way of dotting the i's and crossing the t's. If we didn't feel stressed we'd not be prepared for last-minute things to invariably come up. Knowing we've done all we can will help us keep calm on the day. You'll be fine at both...and be amazed at just how calm you'll be when it happens.

I don't want to shout this too much, because it might take some stress out that SHOULD be there...in other words, make you over-relax about what's needed at the Embassy...but you should have seen how underprepared people were there. It was astounding how little effort a lot of people put into it. You go looking even halfway prepared and you'll be on their list of favorite interviewees on that day.

As for your wedding, well, there comes a time during that day when you realize it's going to happen (you're getting married) no matter if the bridesmaid trips over the train and lands in the pew, or the best man forgets where he put the ring and someone has to cough up something that will temporarily go on your finger. The way I see it, if it all goes according to plan, it'll be un-memorable. Twenty years from now, to have something your husband and you can look back and laugh at together, tears streaming down your face, well...that's a wedding.  ;D

Bless you Lisa, you are a wonderful lady.Your post brought happy tears to MY eyes :)

I will second the notion ppls, that dont fret too much about this.I know first-hand that how scared and nervous you can be.My hubby was there for me,telling me for the 1 zillion time or more."Dont worry, everything will work out"

It seems silly to say,but if everything in life always went smooth, then we soon grow bored of life ;)Problems like these, will be worth it ,once they are over, and you are with your soul-mate.

I think you only need the letter of support if the UKC is not coming with you to the Consulate (or if you apply by post).
Tons of photos and e-mails are not necessary. I would pick out a handful of you in various places--some with family etc, plus just a few e-mails etc. They did not ask for anything like that from us (which is good as we hadn't brought any--d'oh!) but it's definitely best to have just in case!

I did, and he did - they read it and kept a copy for their records  ???

We brought in about 40 or so. Again, they did photo copy the pics for their records. In terms of e-mails, I printed about 5 or so, then i did a screen print of my "sent" mail and e-mails received from Kevin. That was enough for them. Not sure if I mentioned that I photo copied every piece of the supporting documents I brought with me for them to keep for their records.
Keep us posted
