Children to get free rides on London subways
« on: March 10, 2006, 09:14:09 AM »
This is good news from the man who brought us £3 tube fares.

Children under the age of 11 will be able to ride London's Undergound subway system and the Docklands Light Railway for free from April 2, Mayor Ken Livingstone announced.

The free rides will be available to youngsters accompanied by an adult from 9:30 am on weekdays and all day on weekend and public holidays, said Livingstone, who oversees public transport policy.

Back when I was about 11 or 12 and used to ride the trains regularly, children's fares were 5 pence to go one stop, 10p. for two stops, and 15p. for three or more stops.    You could ride from Cockfosters to Hounslow for just 15 pence.
