Gizmo Project - Skype and Vonage alternative
« on: March 18, 2006, 11:32:48 PM »
Hey Everyone. I noticed a number of posts regarding VOIP. We've been using Gizmo Project, an open source alternative. You can call the US for 1 cent a minute. We bought a US call in number for $35 a year so our family can call us locally. We've been very happy with it so far. I'm not associated with the project or company, so feel free to ask me any questions you have regarding the service and I'll give an honest answer. Here's the website: http://www.gizmoproject.com/ [nofollow]

very interesting.  i have never heard of gizmo project.  but calls are $.01 less than skype (when calling the US)...so that's a good selling point.  unfortunatley, i'm locked into skype for the next year....well...i guess i shouldn't say "locked in"...i signed up for a year at about the same price as gizmo project.

i wonder how willing (able) gizmo project would be in offering their service with my current skype number when my year is over?  i'm not sure if the numbers issued thru skype/gizmo project are owned by them and therefore can't be transferred.  hmm...something to look into next year maybe.
