Thank you to everyone who has responded....I appreciate all of the input!

I think I am going to be looking Scotland or Wales way...I am a country boy by heart....and would love to be able to relax with a bit of space and peace, and it seems like I might have a better chance of this with Scotland or Wales.  However...there are many other great areas of the UK....Jersey, Gloucester, York......I could go on and on.  The job search will be in earnest soon.....I will keep everyone updated. :)

East coast of Scotland is quite nice. Sunnier than the west side. We are in the East Neuk of Fife and quite like it. Lots of lovely little towns along the coast. St Andrews is a nice small city, and Edinburgh and Dundee are easy to reach if necessary. Problem is, people have figured this out and the prices of houses are rising. Still less than many parts of England, though. Look at my photos linked below to see the area.

I've heard that you've got to be a multi-millionare to even consider living in Jersey.  I've heard it's a tax haven.  I'm not 100% sure about all of this but only what I've heard.

I have heard Jersey is expensive too, I will have to look at the website the Britwife provided, thanks Britwife!  They seem to pay a bit better as well though, but I will have to do more research.

For me, it would have to be a cottage as far off the beaten track as possible in Sutherland, like Ben Hutig (north west of Talmine and south of the headland of Rubha Thormaid). It is very peaceful.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

I worked w/a gal from Jersey when I was a legal secretary - she was, too.  She moved back.  She definitely wasn't a multi-millionnaire, though.

I would definitely have to agree with vnicepeeps on this.  I am partial to DH's hometown of Bournemouth, also.  ;D

Harrogate, anyone? ;)

We Yorkshire folk do have it made! 8)

Carolyn, Harrogate is beautiful and the surrounding areas. Lucky you! (We were in Yorkshire in March for a week and fell in love with Harrogate). I want to live there!  ;)

West End of Glasgow... someplace like Hillhead or Hyndland, near the Botanic Gardens, Great Western Road & Byres Road.    It's mostly flats round there, but as long as i had a ground floor flat with a private garden big enough for a vegetable patch and a hot tub... DH and I would really love to live in that area.
