but I was frustrated with the 15 minute limitation on the cross trainer and treadmill.

15 min!? Is that normal to limit it?

I agree with all the home work outs, so much more convenient.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

Yes, during peak times, you could only be on each cardio machine for 15 minutes. And it was busy even during non-peak hours!

I have to have an end goal - otherwise I just will not do it.  Even though DH is the best motivator in the world (he acts very disappointed but in a convincing way - probably because he really is) I still find many excuses.  So I have to have some sort of goal to train towards.  That way I know I can't achieve it unless I do the required workouts.  Right now it is the Edinburgh Marathon in June but it can be other things naturally.

The best part about running/jogging/walking is that you need no equipment other than your shoes.  You can do it anywhere!

About the time - I think the best for me is the mornings.  Even though it forces me to give up some extra sleep, if I put it off until the evenings I just find excuses not to do it (like today  ::)).  So getting it over with in the mornings seems to work best for me - forces me to just get it OVER WITH rather than thinking about it and dreading it all day.

Oh and another way I motivate myself during the workout is to either look at or feel (sorry for being gross) my FAT STOMACH.  That is a physical reminder that really helps!

I hate going to the gym...but once I'm there I love it.  And I do love how I feel afterwards.  So what I do is just promise myself that I'll go to the gym - I don't have to do much of anything if I don't want to...just have to get there.  And sometimes all I do is a leisurely 30 minutes on the recombant bike while reading or watching t.v...I try to get there when there is something good on or I'll bring a cool book...and that is a great motivator - to be able to read whatever chick lit I want for 30 minutes!  And then sometimes I feel like doing more...like lifting weights!

So - just get yourself to the gym - that's the hardest part...then do one thing which you might enjoy be it walking, biking, taking a class...read if you need or watch t.v....don't force yourself to do it for too long...but just do something!

This is going to sound pathetic, but I find its so much easier for me to go to the gym when I know Deal or No Deal is going to be on. Ha!

Edited to mention that I also have another trick I use on myself. I've made a deal with myself that, as soon as I put my gym clothes on, I cannot change out of them until I am done working out. So, I put them on as soon as I can, even if that means sitting around in them for hours before I go!

I just saw this again, and I guess I should mention the most effective thing for anyone else who may read this: results. Today, I went and bought a new pair of jeans four sizes smaller than where I started back in January, and they fit perfectly! I'm not where I want to be yet, but that was such a great boost. Plus, my husband keeps commenting that he can see a big change (not that he cares, but I also know that he's proud of me.) I know it will spur me on to keep it up, even when the going gets tough!

Well... when I'm debating on whether I should go for a walk/run on a certain day.. I do this:

I lift up my shirt and look at my stomach. And if that doesn't help, I pull out my "skinny" jeans that I have in my closet just in case I'll fit back into them.  That usually gets my ar*e into gear.

I wish there was no "swimsuit season."  UGH  :-\\\\ :)
