Looking for a Flophouse
« on: March 28, 2006, 05:02:56 PM »
Well, not precisely a flophouse, but does anyone have any personal favorites in London - Earls Court, Kings Cross, Bayswater, Victoria for a super cheap hotel, max 50 GBP/night for a twin, can have shared facilities?  I'm not wanting to do hostels unless I absolutely have to, because not only am I an old biddy and don't particularly care for bunkbeds, but so far, the hostels I've found are not that much cheaper than a hotel room anyway.  I used to use the Rasool Court on Penywern Road just around the corner from the Earls Court tube station, but they've evidently gotten a wee bit grand.  I'm heading to London in late May with a friend, and we're going to start putting out some CVs and setting up some interviews and such, looking for longer-term accommodation, 3-6 months until I can find a place to rent and get husband and dog over to the UK to join me.

Years ago, I stayed at Wellington Hall of King's College.  It was super cheap.  We didn't have to share a room.  It is near Victoria station.

When my hubby and I first met in person, he stayed at the Park International and I think he got a rate of 45/night.  It's near the Knightsbridge area.  Worth a try...

Actually if you dont' mind the basics you could try www.easyhotel.com  They won't have a phone in the room and probably not a tv but its kept up and starts from £30 a night. Here is a quote from the site.

Brought to you from Stelios, the serial entrepreneur easyHotel represents the easyGroup entry into the budget hotel sector and will be found in the centre of international cities, targeting short-stay customers. Customers can book their rooms at this website with a credit card on the basis of the earlier you book, the less you pay and periods of high demand will cost more than less popular periods. This means that at popular times and for customers who do not book much in advance the room rate per night will be higher than £30

Anyway its worth a look!

I stayed at a private home when I came over here...http://www.welcomehomes.co.uk/lista.htm...I really had a nice woman, decent sized room and my own shower room.  And it was less than £40/night!  Plus I got cereal for breakfast!

Thanks to everyone for your help, and actually, through Googling Wellington Hall, I came across another site where I can find longer-term rooms at a reasonable price once I return back for interviews and starting a job, which will give me time to look around for a permanent rental place for husband and dog and moi!
