Raan Thai has really good small ethnic selections, including filipinio, my mother is indonesian, so I'm always hunting down Tempeh! :)

Oooh, I've never seen it there, I will look on Saturdsay. I do love ASI, love those big jars of pureed apples they have and the organic chorizo, and they stock dr. bronners yay :)

Do you ever go to the farmer's market on a Saturday? I have shamefully never made it but might go tommorrow :)

Tempeh is usually on the top shelf in the fridge section with a green label.

I've never done the farmers market either.  [smiley=blush.gif]

Found a box of Arm & Hammer baking soda in the Chinese supermarket, for only 89p!

For anybody who is visiting or currently living in Philadelphia, I've discovered that loads of Mexican bodegas and eateries have opened up in the Italian Market in the past 6 years I've been in the UK.

I never understand why people get excited about finding this.  It's the exact same stuff as is sold here.  Bicarbonate of Soda = Baking soda.

Yeah, I wasn't, like, overly excited about it... just posted it here for the benefit of people who have mentioned that they want/miss/need it.  The thing I liked is that it was so random... to find this in the middle of all these Chinese spices and stuff... and also because it was cheap.  Pretty sure it's a bigger quantity than you get in the Supercook tub, and cost less.

Reminds me of a former UKYer who declared that the salt 'back home' was saltier.  WHAT??!!   :o

I'd be excited about Baking Soda too, in the bigger size containers.  The size of supercook or tesco brand are too small to be of any use for cleaning. Ditto white vinegar (though I have seen big jugs of that at local Indian shop).

If you're looking for large packages of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda over here), you can find them in Chinese supermarkets like Wing Yip. They have stores in Croydon, Wembly and more...http://www.wingyip.com/. [nofollow] I think mine was a 2kg bag. Okay, it wasn't Arm & Hammer but for cleaning it'll do. Plus they also sell large containers (approx 1gallon) of white vinegar.

Does anyone know where I can get shredded coconut? The closest I've got to is coconut chips in the Indian stores and they are too crunchy. I want the kind I can use for cake topping please.

It's usually called dessicated coconut here, and you can find it all over.  It isn't always as sugar coated as the American stuff, but I've bought it in lots of grocery stores and health food type stores.

As Cadenza says, it's easy to find. It's generally with the baking things in the supermarket.

Thanks guys. The desiccated stuff here is too fine. I'm trying to get pieces rather than like grated.
