Cereal
« on: March 29, 2006, 08:23:18 AM »
I'm pulling my hair out trying to find puffed wheat or puffed rice. Any suggestions? I've tried our only local places (Tesco, Somerfield and a very small Asda), but no luck. I don't want the sugary stuff (blech!), but just plain puffed. Does anyone know if Sainsbury's has it? I'll be at the BF's for a week from tomorrow and can make a trip into the Sainsbury's in Truro if they have it.

I just did a search on Tesco's online shopping thingmy, and it seems they have both puffed wheat and puffed rice (at least they have it at the store that does my deliveries).

May be a case of looking in bigger stores... although, im sure that a cereal hunt is the last thing you want to be doing when you are visiting your boyfriend!

Thanks for that Q-G. I know my Tesco's definitely does not stock either -- I paced up and down the cereal aisle for so long that I thought the staff were getting suspicious! I'll check out Tesco's in Cornwall. Oddly, the BF and I both enjoy supermarket shopping, so that's not a problem! ;D

Sainsbury's has their own brand of puffed wheat. I'm not sure about puffed rice. Can't recall seeing it there before.

My Sainsbury also carries the puffed wheat, but the puffed rice that they have is that "Free From" stuff with honey on it.

belindaloo do you have any asian stores?  South Asian ones usually sell it.  I think DH has found it at our Waitrose?  He absolutely hates any and all sugar in his cereal - he even hates plain Corn Flakes!

No, no Asian stores here. And no Waitrose either. :(

I'm like your DH -- I hate sugary cereal! I bought this organic corn puff stuff the other day because I couldn't find the puffed wheat or rice ... but it was SO sugary!!

That's fine! I'll pick up puffed wheat when I'm there. Thanks! :)

Sometimes the non-sugary cereals at Tescos are in the organic section rather than the cereal aisle. You can also try Holland and Barrett type places.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

That's where I found the organic corn puff stuff, but it was full of raw sugar. :(

Have you tried Shredded Wheat, which is also sugar free? Most larger supermarkets sell Puffed Wheat, which is made by Quaker.

Shredded wheat just leaves me feeling too heavy. It tastes nice, but I prefer the puffy cereals!

My Tesco (a fairly big one) didn't have Quaker Puffed Wheat. :(

We don't have a Holland & Barrett here, but I did check into Julian Graves (I looked online ... but we do have a branch near me). They have a sugarless flake cereal, but still nothing puffed.
