first things I'll eat when I get back!
« on: March 31, 2006, 02:17:49 PM »
I made my preliminary grocery shopping list today, of the first things I want when I get back to Florida.
First on my list was rye Trisuits with cheese melted on them! ;D   Then coconut shrimp...    And a big roast beef done the way my granny used to make it!
I have really missed my traditional foods!

what are the firstthings you go for when you go "home"

Usually, it's my favorite restaurant foods there:

IHOP -- the international omelet with side of harvest grain-n-nut pancakes
Carrabas -- either chicken parm or Rigatoni Campagnolo
Red Lobster -- the cheese biscuits!
Tex-Mex food I don't have to cook myself -- even Taco Bell counts
In Tampa Bay -- New York-Italian style pizza from the little local restaurant near where my friends live
If I ever get back to Kansas City -- Gates BBQ or the Smokestack in Martin City, also Mannys

Otherwise -- I miss American desserts, graham crackers, hmmmm - I'm sure there are other things as well.

In Canada, I always, I go for poutine - which is a Canadian thing (french fries, cheese curds and gravy)

Otherwise, red twizzlers (not redvines), mexican food, and yes, a good burger and crispy fries.

Red Lobster -- the cheese biscuits!

Have you ever tried the pillsbury cheddar garlic biscuits you buy in the frozen section, they are almost as good!!

Oh well I wasn't even including which restaurants my poor housemates back there are going to be forced to take me to in the weeks after my return!  ;D

Chilis
Steak n'Shake
Red Lobster (YES! to the cheese biscuits!)
our fave tiny Thai joints
Molly Goodheads near Dunedin for conch fritters!

Thing is...I've been here so long & hubby has got me eating so much healthier foods...all the things I loved there no longer taste as good as I remember them tasting -- plus I don't have as big an appetite as I once did.  I get there, eat something & then feel slightly disappointed either at the taste or that I can't finish it...turn to DH & say "What have you done to me?!  I'm no longer 'me'." :\\\'(  I am such a freak.

Oh no!  You are so normal.. and the food you eat now is real food... big big difference.

Boy up4tea that's a lot of stuff to miss for not being here too long!

I totally relate.  We made a deliberate effort to change our eating habits when we moved here.  It works, I guess. I've lost about 10 pounds (that and stress, I can't figure out which is the cause!)

I would love to go to Islands in San Diego for a mushroom burger.  And rubios.  They would be my first stops.

well food has always been an important part of my life...partly due to my upbringing I guess

it is not to say that I do not like the food here, because there is so much I am going to miss when I am gone!

and btw, don't get me wrong, I am not normally a dining out kind of person...and I have been on a reduced carb diet for about 2 and a half weeks now, eating mostly natural foods/fresh produce!

I just suddenly was overcome by cravings for things I have left behind!
