cool! ;D

i went there night before last.  it's at the Osmaston Leisure Park, behind the Pizza Hut.

the restaurant is open until 10 pm, and the drive-thru stays open until midnite.

i had a cheese dog and a rootbeer float.   ahhhh... rootbeer!!!   the big weirdoheads put ice in the float tho, which made it hard to eat the icecream, so i guess that you have to request "no ice".   it was still pretty good though, and i will for sure be back!

hotdog was good too.  i hear that in England, the grocers sell hotdogs in...  a can??  in a can, with some sort of "meat" juice in it, or something nasty.   A&W's hotdogs are the good old American-style!!!   ...and with the good skin, like Bob said!

numnumnum...

Ben, don't get me started! A shopping list? Well, A&W would definitely be there, but many line items down.

yummie, i went the other day again for a hamburger.  Pete was feeling sorry for me having such a poopie bday, so i got some pity rootbeer.  hahaha

i had a burger and it was so good.  i'm pretty sure it was real meat and everything!   it was awesome.  if you dine in, they even have the frosty mugs for the rootbeer floats.

i just got a new digital camera for Xmas, and i'm a big dork, so i did the tourist thing at A&W, and took some pics for you.  luckily it wasn't crowded at all, cuz my husband thought i was silly...

click on the links below for pics...

A&W Derby (sorry this pic is so dark...  it was night time...)

...and here is a pic of the free jukebox.  they have Abba on it and a bunch of Elvis and old school 50's and 60's music

they allow you to top off your rootbeer for free, just like places in the US.   its the only place in England that i've seen that has Rootbeer AND free refills... or free ANYTHING.   groovy...

Can anyone confirm if the A&W is still in Glasgow???  My fiance LOVES rootbeer and I would take him there in a heartbeat for his birthday when I'm there in March if it's still there.  Oh what fun that would be!!! ;D

I'm interested!

I'm only about 1 hr away from Derby, so count me in for the next trip.

I'm tempted to go up tomorrow just to check it out and have a dog (or two or three)!

i am not sure where Leamington is...  is that near Birmingham?  also, i will figure out if there is a train station nearby, and will let you all know.  i am totally stupid when it comes to reading the train schedules (sKed ju als  ;)), so i will have my brilliant husband figure it out for us.  :)

Pete said that there isn't realy a train station nearby, that it is a few miles away, so u would probably have to take a cab from there, i guess...  :P

i looked in Google, and couldn't find any A&W UK listings.

i did, however, notice that when i put "A&W UK" in the search box, UK-Yankee.com's food board came up as #21 on the list!  lol  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

um...  i guess that there might be an A&W in Cork?  i am not exactly sure where that is... Ireland maybe?  ???   anyway, someone posted this at another forum...

Quote
"The shop is called Rocomore, in the Savoy Shopping Centre on Patrick St. It is the first shop on the left from the Patrick St. entrance. And glory days, the woman who runs the shop is keen to learn what other sorts of things she could stock. She already has Hershey's chocolate chips, and marshmallow cream, and A&W cream soda. We told her that if she gets Fritos corn chips, we would buy them by the case, weekly."

"You have been able to get A&W Rootbeer for some time in the north [IRELAND]. Sainsbury's carries it as well as some Tesco stores there. They also have Dr. Pepper in the north, if you are into that as I am. Checked the Pepsico web site (who now owns A&W) and the franchises for Ireland are owned by Whitbread in the UK in terms of opening a restaurant. You might want to contact them!"

i spent a good portion of my day looking for UK A&W locations.  (yes, i have no life.  lol)  there really isn't ANYTHING at all on the internet!  >:(

their official site is supposedly http://www.a-wrootbeer.com, but unless they started selling DVD players and timeshares, that address is incorrect. ::)

i finally was able to email Yum!, which i guess owns the franchise.  i requested a list of England locations, so we will see what happens... ;)

i'll let you all know if i find out more info...
