Marrying outside the US or UK?
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:31:08 PM »
I'm not enaged yet.  But we will be in the not too distant future (before the summer).  There are some issues...so where to get married has come up.  If we get married in the US, I'll have tons of friends and family there from the US but bf will have next to nobody (family won't go and friends are a bit broke).  If we got married over here, I would not have many friends able to come over (either lack of same time vacations or funds), it'd be god awful expensive and bf's family still won't come (they're not huge fans of me).  So I've thought about us eloping to a resort and getting married there.  Has anyone done this?  We're thinking Caribbean (Sandals) or Mauritius...if you have done this (or even gone to one of the Sandals resorts or Mauritius)...what were your experiences?

Operantly they do lovely weddings...as Sandals is one of the TOP destinations for weddings.............and honeymoons...the only thing you will have to think about is if anyone is going to bring children you will have to book at a Sandals that is also a Beaches resort as Sandals do not allow children regardless...Beaches is for families.....

Do you have a Sandals wedding brochure?

It tells you in it what you get and how they do it

if you go somewhere nice you can have a 1 on 1 ceremony....

then we will casually be walking down the beach as it finishes and will say 'funny seeing YOU here!!!!!!'

then we will drink pina coladas till the sun goes down!

 :D

We saw many weddings at Sandals and they all looked beautiful.  They really treat the bride and groom very well.

I was a travel agent (in SA) I used to book loads of trips for families and also did a Wedding in Mauritius - it is a wonderful island. Every client always came back happy.  Really warm friendly people and the resorts are amazing what Europe would term 4/5 star is only about a 3 star there.

with Sandals being all inclusive you know you won't have to budget for anything when you get out there.....

I have booked several weddings at Sandals...

a wedding in Cyprus and one in Florida......at WDW

and several on a cruise.............which are quite good as well
Princess will stream it live on a webcam..........we could all watch you get married!!!!!

Onetiger... in your situation, i would definitely 'elope' off to someplace really nice!

DH and i very nearly went away to get married, cos there were so many problems with this friend and that friend, and all sorts of other crap, but in the end, his mother would have been utterly heartbroken, so we bit the bullet and did it in Glasgow.

My dear friend got married in Jamaica... and I have one reason to get married there.... or somewhere like it... drop dead photos...

then you can always have a reception or a BBQ like they did for friends and family.
