I accidentally got a Gala apple the other day (mixed in with my Jonagolds) and it was crunchy and had a good texture, but tasted of nothing.  :P  I highly recommend Jonagold apples as they are big, crunchy, (but not as hard a Pink Ladies), and sweet!
